Machine monkeys zed

I will see how the weather turnes out over the next few weeks. Its been to cold to spray in our workshop. I am putting together a list but its a long list that includes.
1 2 post lift
2 New tig welder
3 a set of tyres as mine are shot!!

So the turbo is not at the top. But its on the list. I am hopping to build the system and keep using the car. Due to the way its being built i can get almost all the pipe work in Turbo mounted and all other work done. Then the day before we go to the dyno and set it up i can make the connections. Then hopefully drive home in a very quick car......

I'm following this thread with much exctiement Matt!

Also need to double back and see exactly what you've done to be so happy with the handling - I'm thinking an LSD may be on the cards for me in the next year

Yeah the LSD is amazing but getting a proper alignment set up was just night and day. A much bigger difference than i possibly thought!!

I have done a fair bit with the suspension all new bushes some Polly lsd coilovers and so on.... There is not a lot of BMW left!!

Sounds interesting :)

Are you going with an off-the-shelf kit for the manifold/downpipe/etc or fabricating it yourself?

As long as you jam the wastegate fully open you'll be fine driving it around indefinitely before getting it mapped.

Fabricating myself. No kit all dreamed up by me and a friend......

The turbo won't be under the bonnet. Exactly where it or they going is yet to be finally decided!! :)

Exciting and very much a bit scary Niel... It will be pushing my fabrication ability's. Especially if i go for a laminover type air intake interccoler. But i might just go the usual route first and get it running. Small steps and all that. And it wont be happening fast as i will be saving and then buying the bits.

Let see if get mine running first Jonny!! Also i have no idea if your engine is any good for forced induction???

Exciting stuff Mat!!! What a project, I will pester you for a cup of tea and a good mooch around her when you get going

No problem Tom but Monkey HQ has relocated to a top secret location!! Its in a village called kiddington on the Woodstock to Chipping Norton road.

Haha, super top secret :poke: what's happened to your workshop at home? Or is this more of a relocation for the zed to keep it out of sight and mind of Mrs M?

My workshop at home is still there. It was just getting rather crowded. So a friend and I have taken over a barn on the farm he lives on.

We now have room for a spray booth (nearly finished) A machine shop area, a proper welding area big benches and soon hopfully a 2 post lift. So all the working on cars becomes much easier and enjoyable. I have had enough of rolling around on a wet driveway under my car!!

Yes I don't blame you, and your driveway is too nice to be dripping oil all over it! The set up sounds brilliant, once up and running you could get some small "mod days" or "fix it" meets there

Your not wrong Sam had voiced concerns regarding the oil!!

Possibly but its a lot of money and lot of my time tied up in the place and tools. I wouldn't want people using and damaging anything!! Plus its a rented barn and i am not sure the farmer would like a load of z4s turning up!!
I am sure we will help out for a small fee on a more one to one kind of gig.

Forgot to say we have tyre changing and wheel balancing machines as well. Witch is amazing and a god send...

Biting the bullet and starting the job i have feared most on my car!!!

This Sunday i will be stripping her down. Taking off panels, Rubbing, sanding, filling, and sanding some more. And making a start on the respray. No idea how long it will take. I wont be rushing i know that. I have a Renault Laguna!! on loan from my brother so i will have that as encouragement to finish up!!

I am not expecting a world class finish (i am doing it myself in a barn) Although i have built a diy booth for the job. But it cant look any worse than it is now. Any way a bit of wet sanding and elbow grease will hopefully solve some of the problems. I will be putting on my rear spoiler pulling out dents and refurbishing the wheels. So hopefully in a few weeks (i know how this normally works 2-3 weeks work is actually 2-3 months) My zed will look all fresh and a little different.

While its off the road i need to remove my camber arms. I made them a bit long and i have 2 degrees of rear camber and cant adjust them in anymore :headbang: I have also made up some 12.5mm spacers for the front and i will be pulling the camber pins and getting it aligned again fresh for the summer.

I will be taking lots of pictures to keep you all posted. But can i ask a favor from you all. PLEASE CROSS YOUR FINGERS AND HOPE I DON'T SCREW MY CAR UP. Thanks forum family

Thanks Ash

Nissan silver/gray the free colour!! I am saving the cash for the turbos!! It also fits with my modding plan do what i can. As well as i can for as little as i can!!

some images of encouragement Matt!
