Wow - anti-grav Z :o :D

Sorry to hear of your woes MM, but at least you have the skills to get it all fixed - I'd have been on a low-loader and Zedless

Its not actually that low its a 40mm drop most do 30 - 35mm so what 5-10mm??? And i am very surprised the speed humps in my local town are no bother at all. And the ride is great with the new bushes and uprated anti roll bar the turn in is much sharper and there is very little roll. Make :driving: loads better. There is a little bit of bob like you see people in old minis doing but it not bad. And with 192 wheels with non RFTs i would say it a better ride than the standard suspension and 18" wheels on RFTs.

Yeah i guess i am lucky where it happened as i was 1 mile from work!!

Great recovery there, MM! Nice to see the car evolve

Tapatalking...

Thanks buddy there are a few things in the pipe line/ on the to do list.

1 Get the DIY bumper finished and on.
2 Get the paint work sorted.
3 DIY ///M sport seat conversion from a set of standard seats
4 Steering wheel re-trim

Gonna have to sneak all this past Mrs Monkey as i have spent to much already apparently!!

I will update on what its all cost me at some point but i am sure its under £1k at the moment.

In the future there might be some more extravagant extras LSD and a twin screw DIY supercharger

Looking great dude, the quality of your machine work is bloody awesome. We need to set a date for these brake brackets, I've already sorted out the lines so that's all done.

I'll also take some proper pictures of that car of yours... it needs to be done!

Yeah we do quite busy this month i think could possibly do the weekend of 18th 19th? I will have to get myself a set of those big calipers!!

No close ups the paint work is rubbish :(

I'm a magician in photoshop, you'll be fine ;)

I may actually be busy doing Bing's brakes on that weekend, but I'll let you know?

I'll also keep an eye out for the brakes, from what I've heard scrappies are a good bet!

After my caliper came apart!! My advice would be make sure we do everything up very tight and use locktight!!!

Ok well its my fist wedding anniversary the weekend after. I think she would cut the boys off if do anything with cars. Except drive us to somewhere nice!!!

Hope so - the pads arrived yesterday. Weird looking things too, chamfered at the edges. The rears look really small as well :?

Sorry MM

No problem Bing i fancy a few weeks driving it instead of getting my hands dirty!!

Like i said do it all up very tight and with tread lock!! Your pads sound about right. If your discs are worn and and have a lip but there is still life in them i can skim them up for you.

They don't need threadlock mate. You must have just missed one or something! :P Or had an ill fitting pad that caused the brake to vibrate like mental.

Could well be, from what I've read the BMW discs are easily warped. Think my fronts are a little too (like you I get a wobble under heavy braking). You honestly must have missed a bolt or similar though, we all do it, because they're never going to shake loose if you put a decent dose of MTFU into doing them up. I've never had one come undone, if anything the heat they can experiences makes them bloody difficult to get off!

O i agree i did the brakes at Christmas i must have just not done that one up tight enough. Any way i checked al the other bolts after taking my MTFU pills so should all be good now.

I do think these cars a slightly under braked good job we are doing something about it!!

I had braking vibration at high speed - turned out to be a (very) worn bush. Fecked my front discs and pads and all needed replaced

It was the driver's side, can't remember what bush it was (lower control arm springs to mind ?) - would need to dig out the receipt. From memory I was told that the bush being so worn was causing 'undesirable movement' and the front wheels to toe in under braking which was causing uneven wear / warping on the pads / discs. If the discs feel warped it may be an idea to skim - if that's an acceptable / safe solution ? I have no idea, I am no engineer :D

I've heard of this issue on the E46 330 - mine had a slight brake vibration and I got it early on and in replacing my lower control arm bushes it fixed the issue (LCAB were incidentally originals and passed their best).

Yeah i have replace the lower control arm bushes mine where horrendously worn as where the ARB Bushes. Its a week link on these cars. I guess the 3.0l models suffer more as there is more weight at the front.

Yeah its fine to skim discs as long as they are not under the minimum thickness. I think my vibration is due to them being grooved/ slotted discs.

Yeah changing the LCAB's is fairly simple and I'd personally be fitting powerflex replacements. I'm considering replacing both front arms entirely, at 100k+ I want to freshen things up.

Bing, yeah skimming a disc is a safe solution unless it's a severe warm, it'd also do a grand job of removing a lip. If the lip on yours isn't too bad then I'm sure we'll sort it no bother.

Exactly what i did RJS Powerflex bushes all round. It has transformed things. The car dose not wander and just feels sharp and wants to turn in and go where you want it. I would say do it as soon as you can you will love it. It is an easy job all the bolts nuts are tight as f**k and can be hard to reach. Might as well do the drop links as well.

You can show me what all these strange things are when we're poking around :P

Be interested in whether they're ok or not too - I couldn't see anything that looked worn, but I could have been looking at the wrong thing
