M4 Ordered. Now the wait.

Not sure what it was..

But mine is DCT so I guess the same applies?
I had the sport pressed, not the sport + so traction was on, you can always feel the Ediff working upto around 80 mph..

The cars seemed well matched to be fair , mines around 400 bhp and maybe it's a bit lighter??

I went onto the Porsche website.. A boggo Carreras is £72k !!! What on earth makes it worth that kind of money is beyond me..
Ridiculous..

Ah, sorry. You're no longer in the E86?

Exactly, comparing a car that is 20% more expensive seems silly.

But then, I hate the "it's a poor man's 911" aimed at the Cayman too. Every car is a 'poor man's' something else.

I'd rather have a DBS than a 911, but then that's just me.

I think I would prefer a Cayman to a 911...

The new ones looks very nice ...

You need to be in the 100k range to he a 911 looking nice..

The F type Jag is my current favourite.. Can't afford one though :(

Yes I would rather a F-Type. I live close to a dealer and see the odd one about. I always try and listen to their sound.

But I always see 911s. They are common as arse holes around our area. In fact there are two parked on my road!

But it doesn't matter how quick it is, its the disconnection and the M4 has it is spades.

Is that a typo? :-?

From my opinion, the steering is fantastic and you get plenty of feedback (granted it's never going to be an E30 M3 for steering feel, but I didn't feel overly disconnected), the throttle response is fairly instantaneous, and with the exception of the engine noise, it doesn't respond like a traditional turbo'd car. I felt disconnected in the DCT M4's, but this could be because I'm not use to driving semi-automatic cars, but in the manual I felt that driver engagement was actually pretty good.

It was the DCT I drove and felt very disconnected, drove it back to back with a 997.2 C4GTS and there was just no comparison and the same price would be a no brainer for me.

Driving a 911 3000 miles and pushing it to my limit was a revelation for me, amazing how good it actually is. They are 'boring' because they are 50 years old and there are so many because they are that good. But regardless as you've said its not worth mentioning if you need 4 proper seats.

The M4 is just too quiet, not much feedback through the steering where as the 911 (pre 991) and the Z4M you can feel everything through the seat and steering. Like I said if your after a stupidly fast everyday car you can't go wrong and with EU regs it is probably the best available.

I think I'm disappointed with it as we've had an E46 M3, E92 M3 and a Z4M and the new crop just aren't anything like them, BMW have changed direction and its not what I'm used to and neither do I like it. Call me a purist but I just don't like any of these new turbo'd cars, they feel like one trick ponies its the same with the mini over the 3 generations I've owned them they get more and more disconnected.

But like you said its the direction everythings going just prefer the older recipes.

Stephen I'm sure it will be everything you want and will offer you some practicality that the Z4M lacks and i think they look very neat in the darker colours . Straight line performance seems very good .

The 997 Gen II vs M4 vs F-Type debate is an interesting one - one i wrestled with last year - perhaps another thred - in this one we should celebrate Stephen's upcoming purchase .

Could be difficult if he invites the owner of a MT M4 into a vid, only for him to say "Sorry mate, I think you've made a poor decision"

The vid IS about MT vs DCT lol. I posted it because from watching it i preferred the MT from the video alone.

On the porsche/others debate, 991 is nice, especially the GTS, as is Jag/Aston etc, but they're not really competing with the M4. M4 these days is a mini-m5 imo. Also they're all much more expensive, and as we've seen recently, get keyed :) http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-33980186

Agreed, looking forward to seeing this toy destroy some Z4's at a meet :) There's no doubt it's incredibly fast and capable, and you trade off a little of the intensity for a bucket full of practicality, we can debate 'why the car i'd love to have is better than the car you love to own' in another :p

Congrats! I test drove a M4 DCT two months ago and found it very interesting.

Not the usual BMW M tho, I described it to all my friends as a Nissan GTR with a bavarian logo. Take it as you want :)

I would not trade an E92 M3 or Z4M for a M4 DCT, but for a Manual... I probably would! All the best mate!

Sooo, looks like the wait should be over in 2 days time. Scheduled to collect 9am, Wednesday morning.

Weather looks dry for Wednesday at present, so fingers crossed!
