M135i

The Zed interior is now very outdated.

I think many people including myself would disagree with this. The E89 interior was a good change and a bit different from the norm of BMW. The feel of the m135i interior is nice and it's a nice place to be but it's very much to the standard look of bmws.

You must also keep in mind that when you test drive a car the garage has usually spec'd it to look great, something that joe public can get wrong because it's their car and what they like but not actually that appealing to others.

I assume on your E89 you stuck with a standard dash ie no leather or wood trim just the big, bulky silver trim?

It's each to their own but one thing the E89 is not is dated, inside or out. If we were comparing a E85 to the F20 & F21 then yes a bit dated now but no, the E89 interior is not dated. Possibly in your combination hence why you feel like that with the F20/F21 being a breath of fresh air

I came from a E88 120 and 135 and the interior on them wasn't dated either because BMW tend to get it right, especially if you avoid the standard trim specs and pay the extra to make it that little bit more special.

I have no idea what an E89 looks like inside... My Z4M has the most perfect interior and dash for the car that it is, no silly satnav, the original owner speced the leather carbon effect finish which is really nice, it just has the key things you need to drive, revcounter, speedo and oil temp!! Even the radio/cd stays off!

Now for the M135i I have on order its totally different, it will have the Black Pannel dash and satnav, idrive etc....

But would I want these in my Z4N.... NO it would ruin it...

I think each interior suits each car beautifully but like most BMWs that horrid big silver trim looks kak and does nothing for the car, no matter what model. On the E89 the sat Nav folds into the dash making it as one when parked up. Nice little touch

Infact the reason I bought the Z4 over the New Boxter was the interior. I wanted something that was very nice to look at inside and out and the Porsche just didn't do anything for me. Shame as I love everything else.

This is my interior

Love the Valencia interior very up to date.

Not so keen on this interior.

no, I'm downsizing. the Z4M barely gets used due to it being too small for my needs.i always end up in my boring diesel insignia. so I'm getting rid of the insignia and the M and just running the M135i as a compromise. i was planning to get an M4, but the other half lost her job and so that plan has been revised somewhat for the time being.....

I'm hoping it will walk down the middle of those 2 extremes quite nicely, i certainly felt that it will do that from the demo i had. the adaptive suspension made the car for me, its almost like 2 cars in one when you flick between sport and comfort!

yes, i'll let you know if i get any new delivery news from sytner.....

Ahhh I see, understand that dilemma. I have a Seat Exeo as a daily drive currently, its so sensible but so boring; so the M135 will replace that. Could not use the Z4 as a daily drive, not enough room and in reality too much of a driving machine. The M135i does do both, as you say the adaptive suspension and auto box sees that it does what both cars do except.... no air in the hair and depreciation... I am lucky to have space in the garage to keep the Z4M for sunny days, and I would guess its value (as it is unmolested and virtually mint) will only increase.

Yeah, I've toyed with selling my m a number of times due to lack of use. Mines only done 16k miles from new, so is like new to sit in and drive. Given how little I use it I have begrudgingly concluded that i would be better off selling it and my insignia and running a single car. Only time will tell if i regret doing it, but I think the m135 will make more sense more of the time and will be almost as much fun to hustle around when I am in that sort of mood.

Personally I don't think you can compare the two - no offence intended.

Z4 (E89) is a very bespoke interior and is the reason I opted for my two Z4's. I think you just can't beat the modern feel of the dials etc. in M sport spec.
M135i is the latest spec. Not up to F30/F10 standards but still neah toooo bard.

At the end of the day it comes down to individuality?.....each their own. Life would be soooooooo boring if we all liked the same stuff :)

Exactly! It is each to their own but if someone at 23/24 years of age thinks the E89 is dated their A) in for a shock in other marques and B) going to be pissing money up the wall changing their car every year or so if they think their interior is dated because a new model of another car is out! How in 9 months you can say your cars interior is dated is beyond me, unless you've bought a classic.

My other halfs best mate has recently bought a F30 and both my other half and his mate don't think the interior is as good as the E89 but he came from a mk2 TT which is a decent motor too. Again each to their own.

Even then we have a 1989 R32 Skyline GTR and although it lacks some things like airbags, side impact protection (to save weight) it's interior actually isn't too bad and considering it's a 25 year old car it has remote central locking, aircon, power assisted steering, abs, electric windows all things that 25 years ago people would dream about in a car and it's not the usual cheap plastic you get in Jap cars these days. Saying that the R35s aren't cheap looking inside either. I do miss a manual clock on most modern cars, my dads E34 has one even my mates new Passat has one. Just a nice wee touch but would look out of place on the E89 for sure.

The M135i was enquired about by me long before a E89. My other half however isn't such a big hatch fan. If I didn't get such a good deal on my Z'd then I probably would have gone the M135i hatch route over a 2 series. I wanted something a bit more practical than my E88s.

I think you are making sense there, indeed the M135i can be driven every day; it will do everything from shopping to blasting with ease.

The Z4M is not quite a daily driver... However seeing as your Z4M is very low miles and mint I would suggest keeping it a little longer; my guess is that such a car will command serious money in 1-2 years time?

I agree. I think the E85/6 dash is great. Minimalist and stylish. The E89 interior is good too but reflects the different marketing positioning BMW adopted with that car.

Yeah, selling up has been a tough decision, I've bottled it every time so far after going for a roof down blast. :) Im not doing that this time, its going and i'll see how I get on in 1 car mode for a couple of years... I know what you mean about the pricing though, it looks like it might start going up for the right example....

Really looking forward to getting the m135 though, I was really impressed with the demo car I had for the day, the power train in particular is really quite something I thought. Have you read much about maintaining the M135. Apparently the first service is 2yrs/20k miles!? not sure if there is a running in oil change as well?

Yes every 2 years like every BM these days. No running in oil change, it's not really a M car so doesn't get the same treatment. Last time round it was a 135i M Sport, this time it's a M135i. Prices are rather reasonable for servicing, the 5 year service pack is worth the money unless your only looking to keep the car 3 years as your two services would be less than the £500 or so that they charge. Is a nice wee incentive for a buyer when selling.

I had the previous 135i twin turbo version and it was very reasonable to service.

Yep spot on. Don't forget the three tiers now ... Middle being "M performance range" (eg m135) with silver audi-esque mirror caps, then the "M division" cars. Had a good chat with the after sales manager at cooper reading, good chap and BMW nut!

Ohhhhhh I am very excited just now, just been told that my M135i should be arriving around the 21st of May!! I guess you should receive your car at a similar time, they will be sisters!

That's interesting news. I got told second half of May also.... I'm guessing mine will be in the same batch :) I will check with sytner what the status is... :)

Well, before I had chance to ask Sytner, they called me and told me they are due to receive my car on the 20th May, so looks like our cars are indeed sisters Martyn...

looking forward to it, he told me my car was currently showing as being painted....

The cars (John's and my one) have just arrived in the UK, so we could be picking them up next weekend; how exciting....
