Auto or manual, have been reading about both today; I think i am going to have another test drive with the Auto box before placing the order!!!!
Its such a difficult one my E92 M3 was a manual & I am pleased I stuck with it over the DCT(even though the DCT suits the V8 better) but my 330i is an auto(ancient ZF6 speed) but I wish it was a manual...I really like the M235i and If I did buy one it would have to be a manual but there isn't a right or wrong choice imo...its just what you like best. :driving:

Cheers, indeed everything else is clear. I love a manual gearbox on a performance car but am I living in the past with such a good auto available? Both hands can stay on the wheel, its just the down changes when driving hard into a corner that concern me with the auto... I have an auto Landrover Disco which is a no brainier for auto, indeed they no longer offer manual on such a vehicle; no point. The Z4M would be ruined by an auto box as its such a raw car, back to basics; the the M135i is very much boxing from both corners...

hopefully the next test drive will answer my dilemma![/quote]
Yes the M135i is one of the closest do it all cars that I can think of and the Auto comes extremely highly rated so I don't think you will be disappointed with it as literally everything I read about it is positive, the test drive should help so good luck either way.

Can't sleep so popped on to the forum.

Really liking this thread as I've just ordered an M135i Auto as a daily driver.

(M3 will feel even more special at the weekend) 4 weeks wait then........ :driving:

How exciting, though the auto was impressive; I think I will be going for the manual as I can blip the engine on down changes then! Though for the daily driving bit the auto is attractive.

What other options have you chosen?

Choices....!!

Apologies for the late reply. Just caught up with this thread.

Alphine White
Red Leather
Comfort Pack
Business Speakers
Business Nav. (£1900 for Pro Nav)
I'm like you, never really use the Nav in my cars. Usually only to get home if I'm lost

Oh 8 speed Auto but don't tell Lee. We've had lots of previous friendly banter ref. Manual versus Auto :poke:

Mums the word! Sounds a good spec, off now to the dealer so lets see how I get on...

ORDERED!!

Thank you guys for all the advice and comments... Went for a final test drive in the M135i (used the Z4M to get me there) this time making full use of the auto box, and guess what I am 100% convinced now so....

I have ordered the M135i with:

The Sport Auto
Estoril Blue
Heated Seats
Business Nav
Comfort pack
Black panel display
Adaptive suspension
Business Speaker system (yes the standard sound system was awful)
Storage pack.

Still have a couple of weeks grace if I need to make an amendment to the above, but pretty happy with my choices.

Got a really good deal; its always a good time to get a deal in April. Now have to wait 8 weeks!

Got back in the Z4M after ordering the car, its a big difference between the two; but the smiles will always be bigger in the Z4 on a day like this.....

I keep trying very hard to work on me being a little more open minded regards the Autos! :D I must admit as a daily I am pretty much converted now I think!!

Congratulations  exciting times ahead :D

Nice choice fella - welcome to the exclusive Z4 / M135i club (with a membership of 2?!). I hated the auto as I'm a bit of a Luddite but my commute is easy and traffic jam free. The M135i is a fantastic daily driver but it's still an utter pleasure to leave it at home and use the Zed on a sunny day. 8)

Nice spec OP. Gutted that I forgot about Heated Seats. Dreading winter with cold leather

Biggiz 1 - Lee 0 :poke:

Just had a thought. Surely the Auto 8 speed is nothing like the M DCT.
Had the 2TB auto box in my 328i company car.

Although effortless cruising was on tap, surely it's not a full on Double Clutch system.

I am still licking my wounds in defeat! :(

I rate the M DCT very highly even though my M3 was a manual but went out in my bro in laws M3 Cab with DCT the other day and the changes were awesome but everything I read about the 8 speed Auto they seem to say its easily as good as a twin clutch so that is very high praise indeed. :)

Thanks guys, have to say that once I got stuck into using the box today during the test drive it was very, very impressive. I love a good manual gearbox as in my gorgeous Z4M heal toe, blip, blip, but this 8 speed box is amazing, within 15 minutes I was 100% converted to the dark side.......!!

The changes are very fast, almost (not quite) instant (in manual mode) but from memory smoother that the DCT box I used on an M3 test drive a couple of years ago. In auto sport mode it changes down almost perfectly for good engine breaking during brisk driving...

I am a total convert!

Any more for the new club of those with both a Z4 and M135i?

I think these are a very marmite car,

I didn't like them from pictures but there is a blue one near where I work and every time I see it I stop for a look

plus the sounds is pretty nice too.

What idiot said 'Google is your friend'??
Since reading this thread and looking at friggin Google I'm now wanting this, a lot!! :headbang: ....

For anyone interested, here's a link outlining a detailing session performed on my M135i. Loads of pics. :D

Ordered mine over Easter

Estoril blue 5 dr red leather (superman combo)
Auto box
Pro nav
Hk audio
Heated seats
Memory seats
Lumbar support
Sun protection glass
Folding mirrors
Comfort pack
Visibility pack
Adaptive suspension
Through loading system

Just emailed to see if I can add extended storage as forgot that, but think it might have gone into build :headbang:

Drove the demo car for a few hours and loved it, the adaptive suspension makes the car for me, it gave it dual personas which is perfect for my current needs. The performance is really accessible too..... Shame the z4m is going, but this softens the blow somewhat.....

Nobody going for the LS diff?
I don't think its available just yet? don't know for sure though, I would invest in one for certain I personally think they make a big difference and have always thought BMW should fit them to the high performance models as standard anyway.
