I'll take a look tomorrow, if I were you id definitely chase though just in case the window elapses. I don't know if this guarantee still is the case (it def. was 3 years ago), but if you get stuck it maybe worth calling BMW UK directly and report the franchise
 
Contact the dealer principal at the original franchise and tell them they should pay up to your local dealer to fix the problem - or pay for the car to be transported to their dealership for them to sort out, then deliver the car back to you. Remind them they will also have to deliver a courtesy car to you while they carry out the work. Put a timeframe in of 24 hours to collect the car and supply a hire car or authorise the repairs - or you will get BMW and trading standards involved. They need some 'guidance' on what you expect sometimes or they can try to sit it out until someone else does something.
Sorry that this may be tainting your experience of owning an M, but in reality this could have happened to any car.
You'd have been bitching if you bought a Kia and were having to go through this much grief for a Kia!
 
Sorry to hear your dealer troubles. Hope it's all sorted.

I had a similar nightmare experience after buying my car, and sadly the warranty cover nada (well, it could have done but the excess on the insured warranty was higher than the cost of the affected part).

Hopefully the selling dealer will pay up and your car will soon have a clean bill of health :thumbsup:

Talksthetorque ... Thanks for all the detail there! That's my next port of call really. I have the chaps name and will be wanting it stowed safely on the back of a flat bed if it isn't back with me this week or at least hasn't been touched - I can still see that it hasn't moved in the lock up when I drive to work before the place opens. Yes I certainly don't want to come across bitching, more of an update on progress as I posted I had the car then kind of said nothing thereafter. And absolutely, it can happen to any car and I'm just lucky it will be covered by somebody else at the end point and not by me.

You'll get it sorted and fall in love with it! Half of the ownership is getting it where you want.

Had a lot of issues when I bought mine but since its been perfect :thumbsup:

If you look in your T&C booklet you should see the same - when I had issues they sorted me out very quickly, no questions asked despite being at a dealer 200mi away. Make it clear to them that you know this, and that you paid a premium for AUC over private for peace of mind.
 
Sorry to hear about your issues Tom

Must admit I've never heard of a cooling off period with AUC.

Can understand it with a lapsed warranty but not a car that has come from a dealership.

Well... I went by to see the car, as I'd forgotten what it looks like. Wow :D

So, They've replaced the GPS antenna, nice and easy.

However ... They are replacing the cat! On order from Germany. I'd like to give more info on that but I don't really have any. It is to do with vibrating and rattling or something, I'm not sure. All going through warranty by my local dealer. The supplier of the car after nearly two weeks got their act together and finally said to the local that they must put it through warranty and if it gets rejected they will foot the bill, meaning they could at last start looking at it. So odd.

So ... I'm still driving a brown mini countryman :cry::cry::cry::cry:

Sorry to hear this Tom, in general they are pretty reliable cars. I'm sure after this episode you'll have many miles of trouble free motoring and will never again lust over the 3.0. The ///M is an incredible machine and you won't regret your choice. :thumbsup:
 
Cheers Steven. I'm sure. I went and did this impulse buy and haven't driven it properly since. Haha. Pining for it back. We were In the lock up chatting about the car and me having a look as I've not really seen one in the flesh for that long before, and haven't had mine on my drive for more than two days. Haha. Cannot wait to get back in it, it is going to feel as exciting as day one all over again :-D

Strange that the cat has gone though. Hopefully just one of those things. I think I'll be extending the warranty after year 1!

Wowzers ... So I collect the car, too busy looking at the now working Nav and got near home to realise the red airbag light is on - not cool.

Let them know this morning and they will have a look at it. Set off for work this morning, get to 65-70mph and low and behold - steering wheel vibrates again. Unbelievable. What a joke.

I figure they didn't believe me when I said that I couldn't see the vibrating heat shield from the car would be causing what feels like wheel balancing or something through the wheel. Couldn't have said it any more times to them :-( So upshot is they had it for three weeks, and it feels how it did when I left it there :-( :'(

At this rate my car is going to look like garage queen. Lol

M\ate this is shocking!! What is it with BMW at the minute they are going the same way as Mercedes did a few years ago!!!

Hope they pull there fingers out and get it sort and right for you asap.
 
The cat heat shield is integral to the cat itself. It can corrode with time and come loose leading to rattling especially when cold and at low rpm. The solution under warranty is a new cat. Without a warranty, it can be welded easily and cheaply. I had this done a couple of years ago and it has been fine since. It doesn't cause vibrations that can be felt though, just an annoying rattle.
 
Hey Tom - I know you shouldn't have to but do take a look at the tyres on your new car - I had a bleb on an inside sidewall that caused dreadful vibrations at speed. Took me ages to work out what the problem was - it was a rear tyre as well surprisingly. I'm just hoping it could be something simple so you can build some enjoyment and confidence in your Zed.

Hope you get sorted eventually.

Yep exactly that, although they didn't explain it as well as you, thanks. And although I kept questioning whether this really would cause problems through the steering wheel, they were adamant it was the cause. It has been like they won't believe me, and I don't believe they have taken it for a test drive or else it would be obvious this work didn't fix the problem. I think whatever is causing the vibrations pushed the cat heat shield off its last legs - again they didn't believe me until I rang them today to say it was still broken.

They are so unhelpful. So I need the car to get to work tomorrow and thursday, told them this, told them it is still "broken" as far as I can give a crap and they've given it back with an airbag light on. So between two different dealerships they obviously can't organise a piss up in a brewery. Still within 30 days of purchase (just) so I'm thinking of calling the supplying dealer. As far as I'm concerned, it has a fault which they can't rectify (even if it is as something as insignificant as wheel balancing). I don't actually know what else to do. Frustrating as the nearest dealership from work is 30 miles away, and finishing slightly early just gets me there before they close. I'm self employed and I don't see why I should have to take any more time off work to sort out several other people's cock ups :cry: :headbang:

After the disappointment of dick lovett not checking the wheel balancing which was the initial problem, I was lost as to what to do - even more so after going to a tyre garage and finding there was no locking wheel nut with the car!! So I called and spoke to the principle at coopers Chelmsford where she came from only this morning, after emailing him during the week. The principle was brilliant, and this to be fair was the first opportunity they have been given to sort things as Dick Lovett had it covered, so I thought.

He arranged with the service manager at reading to get the car in this afternoon even though they were fully booked. They found the airbag module under the passenger seat had blown whilst not with me, and that the wheel balancing hadn't been done in the first place (whoever fitted the new tyres over in Essex for the dealership may well be in the poop!) They gave me a locking wheel nut there and then also.

So in all, the wheel balancing as I suspected was the only problem with the car!! so minor. The vibrations on a 2 hour journey home must have loosened a rusting cat heat shield. I've no idea why Dick Lovett didn't listen to me when I dropped it off weeks ago, as I said this to them every time I went in :fuelfire:


Had the first proper drive of the car today. Absolutely love it!!!!! Ragged the nuts off it, have wanted to do that since day one but had to stop when I got to about 65. lol. grinning all evening home!! Relieved so much stress for me, this has really been getting on my shoulders.

So on went my stubby today, my aux cable, and I posted the paperwork to transfer my new reg' onto it! Can't wait to wash and polish it, and get the 'zorsts shining now that I have it on the drive! Fair play Coopers BMW.

Fantastic to hear you got it sorted. The Cat shield may have ended up being a bit of preventative maintenance, so that's good.
Can't believe it was so simple and that they didn't check.
It's going to be great finally being able to go hooning over 65 all the way to ....err.....70... :wink:
