M Sports Seats

Nice one... and considering the s**t I had from my stealer about my roof it is good to hear about some good service. Once they have done the work it'd be cool to have a quick synopsis in the Dealer Feedback section if you don't mind.

Went to see the service department at my local dealership today. I must admit they were very obliging. The technician agreed with what the salesman had said on Saturday and has booked the car in for next week first thing Monday morning. His plan is to replace the foam and or any other component that may be at fault.

Thanks for all your postings guys regarding the DIY options

I'm looking forward to enjoying the ride rather then concentrating on what’s going on under my backside :driving:

Great result - if a dealer will fix it under warranty then there is no need to waste time and effort on furhter investigation.

Check it's all well refitted when you get it back. I had the front thigh support heater element replaced on my X5 and to this day the cover has never been a perfect fit and comes unclipped from time to time.

my seat does the same its weird like the centre bum part is moving around. Think ill pop into the dealer friday and get them to check it out see if i can get it sorted.

Well, the car's been in to the stealer and come out worse then it went in :x !!

I dropped the car in on Friday evening and picked it up yesterday (Tue eve). I was told that they had replaced the 'base' which turned out to the foam, not the entire base. On the way home I soon realised that it had made absolutely no difference!! It gets worse. When I got home I noticed that the split rims didn't look right. Upon closer inspection (believe you me, it didn't need to be that close) it became obvious that their 'courtesy valet' had managed to strip all the lacquer from my split rims :x !!

Needless to say I was straight on the phone this morning and took the car straight back this afternoon. Coming from an automotive background I already new that if valuators get the mix ratio wrong on the grime spray applied to the wheels prior to jet washing it would strip the lacquer. From the state of the wheels it was put on neat!

There have understandably been a lot of phone calls between myself and the dealership in question today (Stratstones - Taplow). The outcome of which was that they had contacted the dealership (Stephen James of Ruxley) who informed them that they had refurbed all the rims prior to the sale hence the rims being affected and not the centres. Stephen James has therefore agreed to pay for a refurb (can any UK guys recommend a good service provider for this?).

With regards to the seat. Even their 'technician' said the design was very poor and that the next stage would be to replace the leather cover. I pointed out that the problem with this method is that the leather in the factory is fitted by machine and shrunk to fit to make it tort. Without this process the post manufacture method will always be a poor substitute. They would be better off replacing the base, before spending more money on a bodge only to find out they still need to go down the replacement route. Both the technician and service representative agreed, but said that it would be very difficult to put the warranty claim through as there was no visible sign of a defect. They did however say that they would try the entire base replacement option first.

I received a call an hour or so later from the service rep to say that my 07 Sport seat has been discontinued and is no longer available. I just laughed and said that this was completely ridiculous and totally untrue. Was she saying that a car only months old would be written off for a seat failure? I told her that I would not be fobbed off and would not settle for this answer. She said she would not give up and would try and source the seat elsewhere.

Needless to say, I was over optimistic thinking that a UK BMW dealership would get it right first time!

I’ll keep you posted

Get them to swap it for the passenger one

Only kidding, it does seem like pretty poor service to me. I can't believe that they don't have stock of the seats somewhere, although I can believe they are discontinued, the Z4 is the only car now that uses them. Still should be available though

Had the same thing happen to my wheels too, and they ruined the finish on my brake calipers too. Hope you get them sorted OK.

I have M Sports seats and regret getting them. They look good, but I find them too small to get comfortable in.

I'm 6' 2" but not particularly wide, but still find it tough to get in them snuggly.

Also, the leather has worn really badly on the driver seat where I have been getting in and out of the car. I think that is really poor after just 3 1/2 years. Part of the seat looks like it is 10 yrs old.

You can easily get them restored and will have no trouble at all swapping them to someone who has standard seats if you want rid. They are highly sought after.

I'm 6'2" and pretty wide and heavy (18 stone - far too much time spent lifting weights in the gym) and I find the sport seats great. But my drivers side bolster is wearing quite badly and not what I would expect from a car less than 18months old. Going to get BM to look at it when I am next passing by.

The dealership phoned today to confirm that the M seats 'are' discontinued and there is no stock available of the bases. She even offered to email me the official statement. They will therefore have to go with plan 'B' and replace the leather on the base on top of the foam (which has already been replaced). They will also add to the foam slightly if and when required. As expected, there's no leather in the country at the moment either, so that's been put on back order. They've spoken to their wheel refurb company (I'm still open to any other recommended companies). They will need to see the wheels before they can say if they can be done on site or will have to be sent away.

I'm amazed that the ///m seats are discontinued when I continue to see new Zed on the market with them fitted. I thought they had to keep a stock of all components for many years. I assume therefore they just keep components??

Not sure if it is any use to anyone but I have a leather seat back cover for an //M Seat, in light grey.

(Pics available in For Sale section)

Brand new, still in box, and comes with all wiring etc for heated seats.

If anyone is interested, happy to sell on cheap to make some room in my back bedroom.

Some pics of the M sport interior.
