M Sports Seats

Now it may just be me, but when I'm driving I can feel the 2 main rectangular portions of the leather seat flexing independently under my backside as I'm driving. I asked my wife if she feels it in her passenger seat (she hasn't got a licence yet so doesn't sit in the drivers seat) but she doesn't. I wouldn't mind if I was of XL proportions  but at 5' 8" and 175lb I'm not exactly Mr Blobbie. I can't see anything wrong with the seat. Does anyone else feel it?

Doesn't sound quite right to me, I'm a lot heavier than you and my M Sport seat doesn't do that.

Maybe something has come away/cracked on the seat base. Have you tried moving the seat forward and reaching up under the rear of the seat base to fele if anything is cracked or loose?

I would suggest that the base pan has come undone from the 2 rear hooks. This allows the seat to move and flex. In essence to put the base in you that to push it backwards engage 2 hooks then bolt the front down. Too difficult to describe accurately in text here, but I know as I built my own seats up and know how difficult it was to get correctly located.

I suggest you take the seat out and check the base is all firmly fixed and nothing lose or broken. Remember if you disconnect the seat you must NOT turn on the ignition, or you'll get an airbag warnign and need to go to the dealer to reset it.

Jeeper is correct. ANY TIME you want to disconnect a YELLOW connector, disconnect the battery first..... YELLOW connectors are for the Safety and Information (SRS system) circuit.

Thanks for your input guys. I don't think it's as serious as anything coming apart or broken, as it's only slight and I don't get the sensation all the time. It's like I can feel the gap between the 2 sections of the seat. When I feel the passenger seat the 2 rectangular portions with the recessed join between them feels firmer. There just seems to be a bit more give in mine. When I'm driving and I take my weight and put my hand on the seat it just feels like the natural give between the 2 pads. I'll have to take a picture of my seat ( ) and we can compare. Failing that I'll have to take it to the stealer.

Hmmm, I may be off base, but you're not talking about the thigh support front part of the seat are you? If you move that without making sure it's at a "click" stop, it will move under pressure.

OK. I've just got back from a 230 mile business trip and have tried every conceivable seat setting with little change. I've sat in the passenger seat (not whilst driving of course  ) which feels a lot firmer and have felt under both seats. Nothing feals broken or missing just more spongy on the drivers seat.

Next stop the stealer. They can take it out with me in the passenger seat so I can see if it's just my over sensitive backside (although I doubt it :( ).

cj10jeeper,

If the base pan had come unhooked/unattached in any way, would your bum sit lower in the base, because that's how it feels? The seat itself isn't loose in any way. It just feels saggy.

Went to see my local BMW dealer this afternoon. I opened the car door, the salesman took one look at my seat and said. 'That seats had it'. That's a warranty claim'. He advised me to come back on Monday and show it to the service department (which was now shut). He didn't envisage a problem with putting it through as a warranty claim. He said the previous owner (bearing in mind this isn't the dealer from which I bought the car) must have been a very heavy guy who just flopped down in the seat. Hence the foam was in his words 'knackered'.

I'm glad it wasn't in my head or just me being picky. I just hope the warranty department are as sympathetic.

No I dont think so as the rear catches hold it down. If you can lift the rear of the base then they have become unhooked.

Personally I'd just disconect the battery, 4 bolts and a connector and the seat is out. Tops 10 minute job to remove the seat then you can inspect it properly

Psst, guys....his dealer is fixing it  :poke:

Went to see the service department at my local dealership today. I must admit they were very obliging. The technician agreed with what the salesman had said on Saturday and has booked the car in for next week first thing Monday morning. His plan is to replace the foam and or any other component that may be at fault.

Thanks for all your postings guys regarding the DIY options

I'm looking forward to enjoying the ride rather then concentrating on what’s going on under my backside :driving:
