If bought , garaged , polished & then relisted i would agree but as thats plainly not the case here then i don't see the issue

Ultimately it will sell for its worth whether that be £13500 or £15k ? Even then it doesn't define a cars value as i'm sure you are aware , that is what someone else is prepared to pay as with Mr B & your own car :wink:

I agree. What paza3 did was wrong, certainly to list it on here anyway, but if prices are on the up which they seem to be then I don't see an issue.

a car's worth what someone is prepared to pay for it - bit silly to buy and sell in the same place like that 35is a year or so back - hardly market arbitrage at its finest...

some buy a car and take a thoroughly pragmatic approach to its value, some buy silly cars and lose money every day on a brand new bland sh!tbox insisting it was cheaper than their 6 year old whatever it replaced, and others buy a car they probably can't afford and try to kid the missus it's an 'investment'... I reckon a decent z4m will hold its value..i occasionally lament the day I let a decent low mileage e46 m3 go for peanuts, 3 years on I couldn't buy the same car for another 40-50%.

not sure what someone else's 'list of metal' has to do with the price of a car though.... 21st century socialism rearing its head... :fuelfire:

It came from Stratstone BMW Derby 8 month ago and cost £17K. At this rate these will be in air cooled 911 territory in 2 years. Beginning to think I should have kept it a while and borrowed the money for my 911.

I don't think we're at that stage just yet Taz. Values are rising but not fast enough yet.I suppose it depends on what you define an investment as. You might say that because the car has stopped declining in value the saved depreciation, versus almost any other car, means you are making a return. However that's a bit weak. They still cost £1-£1.5k a year to run even if you are doing low miles really.

If you buy it to shut away in a garage with no intention of ever using it, as part of a portfolio of similar cars, then perhaps you might make a decent profit in the next few years. The moment you decide to tax it and run it though you are liable to be out of pocket.

The fall in a cars worth after purchase (even used) being the single biggest hit on the majority of cars which leaves the ZMs in a elite group
Bought wisely they could make the owner a profit but in the hundreds not thousands
Woots Mroady at £10450 possibly the best example of recent months :wink: still regretting not jumping on that myself :(
 
Insurance is only £233 for the coupe...

Tax is a kick in the spuds though.. I just think " it's only a tenner a week" to try and soften the blow

Jesus, that is heavy considering where you are.. Postcode lottery I guess and daft considering I live about 7 miles from you..
 
Mine is hardly doing any miles for a variety of reasons - <1,000 p/a but is on SORN between October and April and insurance is less than £200 a year on a multi car policy, so it's not really costing much to keep in the garage while values rise.

I pay less insurance on my ///M than I do for my 320d. The 3 series was £280 and the M was £190, with the same insurance company. I found that absolutely ludicrous and so did the guy giving me the quote, he couldn't explain the logic behind it.
And that's with only 3 years no claims, 3 points on my license and an accident a few years back. :|
 
I asked the same question, and the answer I got is all relating on the crash rate of that particular model, theft rate even down to the colour of the car. A Red one could be more than a black one or vice versa. So get a few quotes on various colours of M as it might vary in premium.

I guess the statistics for a 320 are a lot worse as they would be stolen like mad, and due to the driver profile (reps) crashed a lot as well.

It made no sense to me that my Audi with twice as much power as the Polo, and being twice as expensive was not more to insure than a Polo.
 
I find the power thing with insurance a bit of a moot point, every car can go 80mph...it's the braking power that is more important. I feel I'm far less likely to crash in a performance car than when driving one of my rep mobiles. Driving a Hyundai Accent (or whatever the F it's called) with 5 people in it is the most dangerous driving you can do!
