M market watch

Pics are now up of the Sepang Bronze MC @ £28k

Confirmed it's the one previously sold on this site. And it looks utterly phenomenal, if not subjectively overpriced.

At least the wheels are genuine

CSL's, urrrgggghhhhhhhhhh
Think the car also has after market springs looking at Danny_G's old ad. Wonder if those will be replaced during BMW inspection?

Joking about the CSL's, they look lovely, but do think cars can be over wheeled/tyred. WIll undoubtedly offer a harsher ride unless the after market springs help somewhat. Also will give less warning when the car is about to let go- but people shouldn't be getting close to that point during road use of course.

.....not that I'm trying to make an excuse not to buy or anything :)

On general market note, I've now had a few emails about dealer cars that have been live for at least a week - definitely not shifting so easily.

I think we could summarise this thread quite easily:

M Owners : Market looks strong, prices rising quickly, a trend set to continue....

Prospective buyers : Nah, cars not selling, these are just listing prices, definitely still depreciating / /seasonally cheaper.....

i for one am very happy to have this rare vehicle in my ownership. its appreciating more than it would if it was cash in the bank, it also is just a wonderful thing to own! Win win imo.

They won't change the springs, you would have to negotiate this.

Yes the wheels make the ride harsher, but they look much better than the 224's

So I wonder what happens if one of the after market springs breaks during the warranty period? Will BMW source H&R springs (which are apparenlty fitted) or end up replacing all four with OEM at their cost?

On another note, is the Interlagos Coupe at Sytner Nottingham known? Looks like that has a few mods too -at least tinted front windows and carbon wrap on handles

roadster just popped up with HT too, love that red leather!! The market is going crazy for the z4m.... the dealers are pushing this car higher and higher! side bolster appears to have some decent wear for such a low miler, wonder how many owners its had?

BMW have 6 ///M Coupes on autotrader now, they've added the Sepang one and another Carbon Black one which was for sale privately on Pistonheads last month.

I'm not sure where they got this one from, I've been logging all the ///MC's for sale with their details in an excel sheet to give a good idea on changes in the market and what kind of average mileage these cars are on now.

Is it weird that bmw are getting their hands on these, normally dealers don't actively take back cars as old as these, so must be a profit in it somewhere? and will they be offering full auc warranty on them?

At these prices they are out hexagoning hexagon!

Maybe some are px'ing for m4 s? :?

but where do I come in as an ex-owner looking for one to buy again :).
I don't thihnk they're depreciating but I don't see strong enough reasoning behind the recent rises driven seemingly by one dealer franchise either. Having said that, any markets are really hard to predict. Who really thought for example that the price of oil would have dropped off so much? The so-called experts said "when we come out of economic crisis prices will be higher than ever" - wrong.
So'I'm probably wrong too!
Okay, so justify the price of the sepang one to me @ the price. Must admit, the spec is good for me (flimper spec) But it wouldn't be a garage queen in my hands as that would be a waste - cars are meant to be driven to be enjoyed!15k miles in 7 years isnt enough :)

I was trying to work it out myself, it seems to be a combination of what they'll clearly understand is a very very rare colour and very low mileage. But they're benchmarking that against the prices of the other cars the same franchise have for sale. Perhaps all the not-so-positive-but-not-terrible reviews of the current gen M line engine has opened an opportunity for them to charge these prices, as they may predict people wanting to grab one of the last universally exalted M engines? I dunno. Someone must really really really want a MC in almost new condition to justify paying that, when you could pay easily up to 10k less at the expense of 10-20k more miles on it.

I can see how those disappointed by the turbo'd engine in M3/M4 would be looking at the E90/92's? I've mention elsewhere that a colleague has picked up a fairly decent specced one for £27k - a 2011 car with 15-17k miles on it if I remember correctly. The dealer dropped it the best part of £5k as it just sat there on their forecourt unsold for a while - this was just a few weeks ago and a car that would have been upwards of £60k new.

With the Z4 M there is a direct replacement. I've always been a BMW man but if I wanted a newer version of the E85/E86 - I would definitely look at the Porsche offerings, so not sure the lack of BMW options would cause much of a rise to the Z4 M's or any disappointment with current M engines.

Going back to the Sepang car, it is indeed a rare colour, not a colour a lot of people like however. The lack of options works against it for many, so will be interesting to see how the pricing goes (if they drop it) or what it sells for (if someone manages to negotiate them down from current price). The CSL's are probably worth a bit too. Is close to new in some respects but things still age.

I guess it depends where you price point is ?

If you have 15k-20k then there isnt a Porsche worth having for the same kind of money that you can pick up an MC for..

The cayman would probably be the best in the budget, but pre 2009 cars have the crap engine,so not worth considering imho..

Sure i could love this one but id have to raid my piggy bank which would leave nothing for the blown engine when it comes
