Looking at a Z4 tomorrow - advice please!

Yes, Matt, for Non-CPO (Certified Pre-Owned) vehicles that are still covered under the New Car warranty, you can purchase an extended warranty. I looked into this when I was shopping for an X3. It was a dealership loaner vehicle that had 10,000 miles on it. The New Car warranty covered it thru 4 years from the original in-service date (ISD) and up to 50,000 miles. BMW would not CPO it (which covers up to 6 years from ISD or 100,000 miles), but I was offered the option to purchase the extended warranty that covers up to the 6yrs and 100,000miles.

Thanks...

I have been searching trying to find out about the window sealing system. When I opened the door, the window didn't drop nor go up when closing the door. Can this be disabled?

Nope - the window drops and raises on opening and closing to get a good seal on the soft top. It cannot normally be disabled, so asume the window closing is broken or fuse gone.

I just found out the car I looked at seller stated sport package, however it doesn't have that option. Just has "sports group options.
Sport Suspension, Transmission: 6-Speed Sequential Manual Gearbox,
Extended Leather Upholstery, 8-Way Power Seats w/3-Way Driver Memory, Heated
Seats, Fully Automatic Power Top.
This would lower value with pre. package and the above options, not sport...correct?

Can the z4 be ordered that way with the options above? Is it really a sport susp. without the sport button? I would think the value is lower without the sport option.

If I can hijack my topic back again.. :P ...I was impressed with the car and am buying it - should pick it up Thursday

I think I got a very deal and will have some cash left over from the sale of my Lotus...which I need to spend on the wheels - these are the star spoke composite 108s which I love but are in a sad state...not kerbed or abused, just corroding around some of the studs. Has anyone had these succesfully refurbished or are they toast?

I had a very interesting weekend...finding a car and finding out that 'Ignitor' lives across the road from me!!! Hi Ignitor - thanks for the tour of your lovely motor and I look forward to returning the favour later in the week :)

No worries, my pleasure. I'm looking forward to checking out your 3.0! Ha ha, yeah, it's a bit weird that we live 10 yards away from each other isn't it.
I think i'm gonna have to re-register, I wonder if Paul is available? :(
We've begun the Holmes Chapel Z4 Massive mate.

Nice one Steve,
you have just got yourself what I am looking for. Will be testdriving in February.
I still can't get my head around the specs and what you get with the 3.0 SE over the 3.0. all the information differs.
Enjoy :driving:
Ben

Steve - Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ben - do you mean the 3.0si? I've not heard of an SE, but the 3.0si has 255hp vs the 3.0 having 215hp.

I know what you mean Ben - there does seem to be so many options and it's not clear which come with each model :scratchhead: I think you just have to decide what is important to you and try to find a car with those options ... or just get lucky like I have :happyclap:

Happy hunting,

Steve

If the vehicle is still under it's original warranty (<4 yrs./50k miles), I think you can go to the dealer and purchase an additional 2 years warranty (6yrs total or 100k miles). I think it'll run about $1500-2K, but it's worth it...even if it's just for peace of mind.

Can't be done. Only original owners can buy the extended warranty or extended maintenance warranty.

Maybe it's different here in the U.S as I bought the extended warranty from the dealer. So I know first hand that you most certainly can purchase the extended warranty if you're not the original owner (at least in the USA). And I know it's not dealer specific as I received several mailings from BMW telling me my warranty was about to expire and asking if I'd like to extend.

Had a chat with a regional BMW service rep and he confirmed that the extended maintenance warranty can only be purchased by the original owner of the car. Even if the car is still within the 4-year warranty period, if you're not the original owner, you're not allowed to buy the extended maintenance warranty. This is basically another way to persuade people to buy new bimmers instead of used ones.

What you mentioned in your post is actually a whole different thing from the extended service warranty that BMW offers. Each BMW dealer might use a different 3rd party company to extend the car's bumper-to-bumper warranty and "techinically" you'd be dealing with that particular company for claims instead of dealing with BMW directly, and you usually have to pay a deductible in this case. It does get confusing because BMW dealers typically advertise and sell the 3rd party extended warranty themselves - at their own dealerships.

The CPO is again a whole other story. It's only offered on used BMW's that are sold at BMW dealers, and the cars need to pass particular inspections in order to be CPO certified. Although some people have had luck in convincing a dealer to buy their cars, CPO them, and sell the customers back their own cars the same day - all for a couple of grands.

Ben, have you thought about the ///M?

Have I? You bet.... just can't really spend more than about 15 or 16K, the insurance would kill me too..

Looks like the US and UK specs are very mixed. The SE over here and the Si over there....?
:?

All 108 wheels corrode, and most of them are replaced FOC by a dealer

noooo.... the si was a later engine, the SE a trim upgrade over the basic 3.0i, both with the original 3.0 engine.

Was it late 2006 the si came out.. or 2007 model year.. someone will correct me..

Weird. I bought mine CPO and purchased the extended maintenance plan with it. We've got to be confusing each other using the same term for two different things - or our dealerships are doing things differently. Maybe the extended maintenance plan I bought is just a dealership thing and not a BMW thing. But I'm covered bumper to bumper for both maintenance and warranty until 6 yrs from OSD or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first - this includes my Inspection II at 60,000 miles. I am over 50,000 miles so any warranty repairs will have a $50 deductible (this is BMW standard), but the maintenance plan has no deductible - I can stop by anytime to get the oil topped off, tire pressure checked, air filter changed, new wiper blades, replace burnt out bulbs, top off windshield washer fluids, get the little cargo net thingy on the passenger side that FNI broke fixed :poke: ... oh, and don't ask, I'm not telling how she broke it. I'll let her tell the story if she wants. :P

That makes sense that buying CPO is different from buying from a private party while it's under warranty. I bought mine CPO so I'm sure that's why I was able to purchase the official BMW warranty.

The extended maintenance warranty has no deductible. I was talking about the 3rd party extended bumper to bumper warranty that charges the deductible.

It's possible that when you bought your Z4 used, the original owner had already bought the extended maintenance warranty (since it follows the car)? Either that, or sounds like the dealer simply added the extended maintenance warranty to the car before you officially signed the sales contract.
