If you have a space which is even slightly out of line then it will be a nightmare.

I went for a very expensive one, not a cheap chuck it up type foolishly believing this would stop any of the usual problems, it didn't. I am having it taken out and oak doors fitted.

It rattles and bangs a lot in the wind,its been really windy recently but still. If you have neighbours (luckily I don't) close by they will be your enemies, as I would be pissed off if I had to hear that all day/night and it wasn't my door!
Unless you wash it every week the dirt collects on it and between the shutters so within 2/3 years it will look scabby - scratched/chipped and need a full repaint which cant be done.
You will need a door breaker at the bottom as unless floor is level it will leak like a sieve and howl in the wind.
They are very noisy, again if you come in at night your neighbours wont thank you.

Only positive is garage is warmer in the winter, in summary would never buy one again.
 
I have roller doors as well, touch wood never had an issue in the 16 years I have had them. Just added the phone control to them so no more remotes either :)
 
Matt - I replaced the bottom slat with a solid one as I have a very large roller door, that sorted any wind issue or buckling due to the weight.

Not sure what you mean about the scratching as the roller is only on the side that you can not see as when the door is closed, it is in a guide rail and when open - it is rolled up and not visible?

My doors still look like new after 16 years.

Can you show the issue on the door? Do you have additional rollers somewhere on the door that marks it?

Ignore the car - but you can see the door. The bottom slat is customisable for sloped drives if required and is solid metal whilst the rest is that foam filled stuff. Only disadvantage is that is has to be white for that solid piece.

Not sure if it will help (you sound like you know what you are doing!) I've just invested in a garage door.

I can strongly recommend a Hormann sectional (although this may limit your hoist options). The quality is superb and it is surprisingly weather tight.

If you do want anything from Hormann you can order it from a dealer in Poland, it gets made in the same factory in Germany but gets delivered via Poland and still costs about 20% less. I did this and paid a local fitter (although I probably should have done it myself). The whole process was very smooth.

The Hormann door is nice and they deliver with a variable angled lowest panel so for any sloped installation it is fine. Took me a while to find the information on where the electric open/close pulse came from which is where our two cable connection of the control unit fits onto.
 
gannet - what is the headroom exactly? I am looking to add doors to the carports but am very limited on headroom and my existing doors from the garages need too much headroom.
 
Well it's already being made and paid for. Mines only a single door so hopefully shouldn't be too noisy. Also I have the room to mount internally and the cage will sit on the lintel above. Leveling etc shouldn't an issue as it's sits behind. Going to be fitting it myself with help from my dad looking on YouTube it's really straight forward. Probably been fitted end of the month so will post pictures and a video!

The one I've bought needs 250mm between the lintel and rafters.
 
Single doors are really, really quiet like you say. Good luck :thumbsup:

My rafters are laying on the oak beams, so was thinking of fixing a box against the oak beam which is about that sort of thickness. Will be interested to see how you are fixing it, I would DIY it as well - especially as I need 4 of them. Where did you get yours from?

I will have to measure it.

The original company that installed them didn't mention any problem though - nor the replacement one supplied by the insurance company.

watch this space...
 
gannet - I read that as you just volunteered to help installing it then :)

In two weeks time, my twin car port is being doubled to be a quad car port ...

LOL @ the macan picture, girlfriend picture then the limp Citroen one!!

PVR mine has the solid last panel and is all white, perhaps this is why it looks so worn?
