Lets see your Watches

Just came across this thread...
Here's my 1938 Rolex Oyster. The first waterproof watch.

My Grandad bought it new in 1938 and then my Dad used it and I inherited it in 2004.
The first thing I had done was had it cleaned and serviced at Rolex London at the cost of £500. I also had the glass replaced as my Dad cracked it about 20 years before I got.

Then about 3 years after that I cracked it. I wear it pretty much every day, so it had some use.

As you can see our family has fairly acidic sweat by the corrosion

I bought the strap earlier this year as the metal elesticated strap my Dad had bought finally gave up. I couldn't get an original one (no surprise) so I just bought nice ostrich leather one

it loses about 1 minute a day at the mo, but it just needs a service as I haven't had it done for 20 years.

A watch loaned to me by a pal for use whilst I’m in hospital.

It’s got a good clear visible illuminated face, ideally suited at the moment!

It’s a wee bit grubby at the moment but i‘m not in any condition to start cleaning watches yet.

Some fantastic patina on that watch

Thanks,

I love it for the fact it just looks like an old watch and not 'in your face' like some flashy Rolex's

Latest Timex arrived yesterday, 1983 reissue. Been waiting a while as it seems to sell out as soon as it's becomes available. Think it's the smallest watch I own at 36mm. The bracelet is a hair puller stretchy :) which took me some time to figure out how to resize  as there's no instructions anywhere. Was in two minds whether to keep it as it initially seems too small but has grown on me. There's a gold version which to me looks nicer but already sold out :|

Nice, proper 70s looks in great condition

Owned a few expensive watches in the past, most were sold to help fund our self build house 10+ years ago.
Happy with a few interesting/inexpensive/old/modified Seiko’s now and a Casio garage/garden beater.

Since I broke my ankle and Fibula in Spain I have been really fed up so I thought I would treat myself to a Christmas pressie. This arrived yesterday just in time for the big day.

It’s the base model Submersible 42mm just loving the grey textured dial which really works. The Blue Ceramic bezel is a delight which makes the watch a real looker. The watch has the quick change strap system which is so quick and easy I can see a few strap purchases coming.

Happy Christmas everyone

That's beautiful, and the best size IMO, I nearly bought a used Amagnetic a couple of years ago but it felt enormous at 47mm.
Love the brushed with blue and mat dial

Still think my cheap mobile phone is the best for telling the time and I can do lots of other things on it to

But it’s mass produced in China and looks no where near as nice, also you have the satisfaction of knowing it’s a mechanical working machine built by hand. I know what I would sooner look at.

I have to wonder why you are looking and commenting on a topic of "Lets see your Watches" when you are obviously not into watches :headbang:

Are you here by accident? :poke:

Not all all. My watch is my Android phone. It's a watch for the 21st century.
A bit like a train ticket. It's a bit different for most of us in the 21st century but some still hanker after the old days of a paper ticket that comes out of a machine.
Just don't see the relevance of a watch in a 'state of the art car forum'
