Lets see your Watches

A little controversial maybe :? How do people who are into their watches view the likes of the smart watches like Apple, Samsung etc . Do you see them as a watch in the true sense of the word as an aspirational timepiece? Or a bit of a novelty.

Tim.

Interesting question Tim, I think I am in the camp of a bit of a novelty. But like many watch/accessory enthusiasts I would prefer to wear a nice watch. I have always wanted a Tag and am lucky enough to be in the position to buy a F1 Chronograph tomorrow (maybe). I don't really see smart watches (even the Tag Connect) as something to aspire to. Also at the pace technology moves they will devalue, wear out and be out of date relatively quickly, where as my Tag 2000 still looks great, runs well and considering it is pretty old (but in good condition) is worth a decent amount of it's original price.

My girlfriend wears a microsoft band and whilst it is handy, aside from heart rate, everything else can be accomplished by looking at a phone.

That said, I wouldn't say no to an Apple watch if someone gave me one..

Well I've just taken the plunge on a new Garmin Forerunner 235. I would have liked an Apple Watch like the Apple brand whore that I am but as I'm going to be using it for activities only its a better buy and I believe I can still link it with my phone, check mails, texts etc and it will track me without my phone incase it dies (it tends to do that quite a lot, especially when it's cold)

I think it's a smarter choice for activity use an probably a better HR choice

Yes I think so too. I had been looking at the Garmin before.......doesn't need to be charged daily either which is a plus

Bought an apple watch at the start of the year and really liked it but sold it recently as I found I was Obliged to wear it everyday as it tracks your running/walking/cycling and pushes you to do more etc and monitors your sitting and heart rate so wasn't wearing my other watches as I'd have a missing day in my stats.

Felt it was controlling me instead of the other way around plus apple pay seemed a long way off launch in Ireland which was a part reason I bought

One thing I really don't want to be doing is not wearing my watches. The amount spent on them it's a shame to leave them sat in a box in the bedroom.

If I have to wear it daily then I'll go all Maradona and wear my proper watch on my left arm and my Garmin on the right. I'm sure I'll look like a right tool!

This is the real problem with the Apple watch, is for those that see a watch as jewellery they want to wear different watches at different times. I couldn't bear not wear my watches for any significant period of time, so Iv'e just bought a new UP3 (nearly half price in the Amazon sale) to replace my UP24 and I'll continue to rotate my other watches.

Only reason I ask is I would think people buy them purely for the tech rather than the looks which the latter for me just doesn't appeal. I think its the kind if watch where its pretty useless unless worn daily which I tend not to do with a watch.

My boss has just bought the Tag Connect and it's very nice, but as he doesn't have an Android phone he sacrifices a lot of functionality. Having an automatic Carerra I know what I'd rather be wearing.

Pulled the trigger on this beauty today bit smaller than I am used to so its a bit wait and see. Its a re-edition Monza 2004 with the calibre 17

That Tissot is rather nice. Such a very underrated watch company, yet they are quality in every sense. I have had a couple over the years.

I love it mate , weighty compared with my other watches but soon got used to that & it sits a treat :)
Really pleased with it & just to keep this thread updated from my wanting one

I picked this up in the Ernest Jones sale although had to wait a few days for it to be shipped to my local store, I like it's simple design & the fact that it has an automatic movement which is visible from the back, Hamilton watches are not a well know brand in the UK however I'm really happy with the quality of this watch & I've got to be honest this seems every bit on par with my Omega's - both brands are owned by Swatch group.

(Apologies for the stock internet pics).

I had the Hamilton Frogman with the canteen over the winder, my son in law as it now. Top watches with quality movements. As you say nice clean lines, makes an ideal dress watch.
