Leaked pictures of production Z4

Cropped and taken at a funny angle, I’m not feeling the love at the moment but will see once it’s been officially unveiled.,..

Nice spot Wil.

That looks superb...if it drives as they say I’d have one if at all possible. Being critical it looks a touch flat along the door top line, could do with a slight curve up towards the rear but that’s all, I think it looks fab. :driving:

I rather like it - I see its got an ///M badge, so there's an M version then? or is that a badge faux pas :?

No M yet Colin, there will be apparently with that car being the only manual box available, the M40i and the rest using an 8 speed ZF box.

Probably just renders, but front end looks like Fiat Amarth 124

Got to agree from the front it does, I’m hoping that like other Bimmers it looks better in flesh, it’s a shame about the bonnet line though, the concept looked better in that sense ...

No worries, it’s growing on me, just not so much from the front ... think in this case might look better with the jewel encrusted grill.. I think there’s so much kidney grill that the Black makes it a bit overwhelming, with the spoiler inserts too...

Similar badging to other M Performance models (M140i) etc.

I quite like it too, but can’t help thinking that one of the reasons the first gen Z4 and TT are slowly becoming classics is their relatively simple lines and focused design language. Less aggressive, but a bit more timeless than subsequent evolutions. Maybe that’s just how it feels right now, but it is starting to feel a bit like this...

The concept at the FOS looked great in the flesh, this has too many corners & edges going logically nowhere. The earlier comment about the timelessness of the original Bangles design is spot on, all the curves & lines flow, especially those on the side which form a ‘Z’.

I don’t care mine won’t be as fast, won’t be as economical, has far fewer electric gizmos and is not as razor sharp handling wise as the forthcoming model.... it’s got something else ... a wayward soul that beats loud & strong every time she wakes from her lair.

That nostalgia’s dying out with modern cars, Caterham, Lotus, Alfa, Alpina ... etc being the exception & at a real premium with less for more... progress egh

Can’t argue with any of that Mr PT and a very good comparison you make. I guess everything moves on and if you want new tech stuff this is the way it’s all going, a shame in a way as simple curves and lines can make the best looking objects as in your comparison but it’s not all about looks either, by the few accounts this is a cracking proper sports roadster, and after all isn’t that the fundamentally most important thing..?

That was exactly my thoughts when I saw that picture. Worrying.

I really hope that’s a render - the front end looks awful... as for an M version, I am pretty sure I saw an interview with the head of the M division saying there will not be one. With the M40i at the top of the range the market is too small apparently.

Here’s the article - he doesn’t say no outright, but...

I'm liking the look of it seeing the one in Blue. Looking forward to seeing one in the flesh and seeing how many of the English pounds they are asking for one :driving:

Yup, blue one looks much better, though not enough to make me blow more savings

Well I think that looks absolutely gorgeous, fresh new design, I so want the Z4 M40

I guess the fact that it looks like other car designs supports what MrPT and others have observed - modern designs have similar cues and contemporary influences to try and entice the modern sports car buyer, and there's nothing wrong with that. The result is that current marques make our mk1 Z4s stand out and as the years roll by perhaps become that timeless classic.
