My car went in for a small bodywork repair recently, and I just remembered this thread so I checked my recorder.
I know the shop owner has 2 places but I assumed the car would be repaired at the place I dropped it off, but it wasn't.
The two places are only a few minutes apart but I found this, they used their flatbed.....and left the ignition on, very handy.
Two things to note, the owner is a friend of my wife, and Japanese are generally honest
Something I noticed though, no timestamp in the video, although time the file was created is in the file, need to check.

The last time a case like this was prosecuted the 'offender' a 23 yr old male received a 4 year custodial snetence for joyriding in a customers focus ST!!
A custodial sentence or any criminal record generally means the end of any small business and the owners. As this guy has 4 other lads working for him and all of them, including the guys in the video have families and mortgages to pay i decided to keep things in perspective and let it lie.
I would not get even a single atom of happiness/closure/satisfaction from him going to jail and all those lads losing their jobs, i dont believe any psychologically normal human would to be honest.
Its all about perspective - in reality no real harm was done.
I was offended by what happened for sure - but you know what happens when youre offended? - nothing, you are just offended and I personally do not consider myself so important that I will not go through my life without being offended regularly.
Maybe some day he will see that video, who knows...

Yes you dont want them to loose their jobs, but that doesn't mean you cant inform their potentials. Post it on their google reviews, or tag the video with their handle on fb.

Send him a copy of the video without any other information and just let him stew on his actions for a while. Good on you for not pursuing it further but he needs to be made aware that you can be watched....wherever you are. If he carries on doing what he did, it's just a matter of time until someone is hurt, or an innocent customer has a badly damaged vehicle....or an incorrect speeding fine they will have to sort out. Should be easy to sort as the police have never heard the "it wasn't me" excuse before.
Your car will not have been the first and it certainly will not be the last that this guy will do that too. I really hope that in a few years down the road you don’t read in the local press that he killed a family of four during a joyride in a customer’s car.

Fair enough in not reporting it to the police, I would certainly go back to the place and tell him that this should not happen again - he could seriously damage someones else's car or worse hit and seriously injure or kill someone.
He just needs to be made aware that he has ben caught and that he is lucky you are forgiving and not dropping him right in it as it could be the end of his business and a custodial sentence for what is basically twocing

It's easy for those who are not in your position to tell you to go to the Police (Like I did) but with the possible threat of retribution, I can understand your not going to the Police. What I cannot understand however is not letting him know he has been caught. Think of all the other customers in the future he will do the same too if left at that. Hopefully he won't kill anyone next time he does it if he is allowed to repeat what he did to you.
