Carefully :P
Ive just removed them on my E89 and I had to pull them apart firmly holding one half in each hand starting at the bottom. They are held together buy one side having a ball which pushes into a cup on the other side. Or you could buy Smartbear breakfast in return for his workshop skills :D

The E85 roll hoop covers are held together by clips that are, apparently, very easy to break - Stu Boy was explaining to Marlon how to remove them at ZedFest so it might be worth dropping Stu a PM

with very wide plastic spatulas. I removed mine of my old car and only broke two clips. Replaced with new ones for fitting wind deflector, but you would never have know a clip on each was broken.

Backs need to come off first.

Just found this on Bimmer forums

Just scroll down

I used the guide that firebobby put up the only difference I done was start to remove them from the top of the roll
hoop I just found it easier to pry them off that way I used two 3" painters filling knifes to get them off, its a fiddly job
getting them off and I broke a couple of clips on the first one but the rest was alright, just take your time jonny and all
should be good

well I'm going to admit it..... I've just tried to do this... and its ended badly. i am so pissed!! leave them alone jonny.

Apparently, with difficulty! ;)

What about getting them wrapped?

Keep us informed how you go .

Whoops! and they're not cheap to replace....

I don't want to re open old wounds Mr E. But the people who've tried say no, leave them alone - leave them alone!

Jonny , they can be tricky but they aren't impossible , I have a spare ( lightly marked) single pair which I can send you if you want to inspect a pair already removed to give you a better idea . Or I'm happy to post pictures if that helps .

In my experience Tape the edges next to the split with several layers of thick tape then use a flexible 2 inch or so wide paint scrapper to carefully prize the halfs apart, start at the bottom and carefully work your way around . You will probably break a few clips but that's par for the course , unless your an animal you won't break them all and they will still go back together fine .

I will give it ago if not I will just buy new ones at around £50 each side
I'm going to spray them Matt Black as well.
From what StuBoy said at ZedFest, I think you may find that each part averages around £50 - 2 parts per side (front/back) so £100/side

IIRC the Z4MR comes with black covers, assuming you get yours off without damage, you may find you get better results by selling yours and buying new factory black ones...

I bought replacements for my E89 from BMW and the total for the 4 halfs was £90. I would hope the E85s would be similar... But then we are talking about Herr BMW :?

Omg that is such a rip off, they are pretty much the same as the E89 but 2.5 times the cost!
