Completely agree with Sars. Once the facts were confirmed, the BBC had little choice but to bin him. Exactly the same would have happened in any other corporate enterprise.
Personally I think it will be good for all. I hope:-
A. Jessa moves on to something different and doesn't simply poach his co presenters and set up on BSkyB or some such.
B. Top Gear continues and changes it's format back towards factual Top Gear.

Chris Evans said this morning he definitely would'nt do top gear next year. Might change his mind of course.
No question he had to go, there has probably been numerous instances of loutish behaviour that he's got away with.
Despite that I still respect the guy for his attitude in this PC world, no-one has to like or agree with his comments, and after all he does it for effect, if they become unbearable you reach for the remote.

I don't see how the BBC can re-brand Top Gear when you think of all the products associated with the name, so its going to be an interesting few weeks to see what happens.

Not sure what I think the future of TG is really... on the one hand I feel it may end up like Two and a Half Men, when they replaced Charlie Sheen with Ashton Kutcher, but on the other hand it's such a global brand that there is more incentive to somehow revive it... maybe Boris Johnson could do the job, if he doesn't run for PM?!

Listening to James then it sounds to me very much as if there are behind the scene reasons all 3 may leave. 'Package' sounded more like a cover all word that sounds like 'we're buddies', but means there's some company/contractual ties between them, perhaps preventing any individual leaving the show, setting up in competition, etc. etc.
I reckon the show will go on, re-launched next year and with a complete new line-up and format.

The Jeremy Clarkson show coming to ITV soon ...... "He's a bit of a knob but I like him" Show 
bleh bullshit, its off screen, out of the office. This could easily of carried on with a public apology and a joint statement.
I hope they all leave and do something elsewhere, as much as i dislike Sky - they're probably best suited to continue the trio's antics.
Replacing the cast with Chris Carris, Chris Evans and whoever else is a lovely fantasy, but it's nothing to do with top gear, it'd be a new show entirely. 'Top Gear' is a show about 3 guys messing about with high end cars, not '3 decent presenters making car reviews' - yes, it could be that .. but it isnt, and the 1000 BBC worldwide clones of the show are also not that, they're based on the trio.
I don't think anyone (unless they had some huge ego) would be interested in being involved in a topgear replacement flop done by the BBC. Can you imagine the first scene of the new series, with the camera panning down to Chris Evans saying "We're Back!" .. i'd turn it off.

The BBC should drop Top Gear and create a different, car-focussed show, although the audience figures would be far lower - there aren't any car shows with the dedicated following and marketability of Top Gear (18 year waiting list for the studio tickets!). But I expect the BBC will try to rebrand it, they like to flog the proverbial dead horse, so I can see a second rate show being cobbled together. Top Gear Lite, anyone?
Of course, they could just show the US Top Gear for a few months before bringing out their new version...

If I assaulted someone in my workplace - and believe me, sometimes I really want to - I could expect to be summarily dismissed and probably have to do some time in a court-room. The nature of the Top Gear workplace is such that it is wherever they are filming, or staying between shoots, if it's not in the office. Does being 'geared up to handle decent talent' mean discarding the general norms of society and the values of the organisation for someone with an ego that has eclipsed his common sense and decency ? Clarkson shouldn't have done it - there is not a single justifiable addition to that statement starting with 'but' unless the assaulted party hit him first. Which he didn't.

It was JC who after days of trying to apologise for his actions reported the event to the BBC and at that point he knew he had gone to far this time.
