With 4 kids.. all tall for their ages (10, 13, 15, 17)... I don't try to make my family car a fun car. My family car has to support active boys and girls, and all-wheel drive anywhere any season to ensure reliable Ohio driving. If I couldn't have another car, I couldn't have a fun car. Even with 4 kids, I'm often driving just one... and they always want to take the Z4 when that's an option. More important, they see me owning something that isn't new, sometimes needs work, and is valued. Usually, one of them is working on cars with me to do maintenance or just simple care. These are priceless things to do with your kids that they will grow up to value, even if they become filthy rich and never have to do their own work. With 3 boys -- 2 of them already know how to weld, do brakes, suspension work, and oil changes. Create functional humans, not the effete helpless generation that is too prevalent.
IMHO, once you take away that 3rd or 4th car option, you create more stress than necessary. You only live once. Keep a fun car that you can enjoy and also get another car you can use for your growing family for another decade. Then later gift the family car to one of them and enjoy your coupe.. or gift both and get yourself a current model.
