Is my stereo compatible with a aux installation?

Hello again!

Are all stereos compatible to install a aux cable? I got a 2003 2.5i with the bmw business stereo, and I have read that the stereo need to be prepared for a cd-charger to be able to install a aux cable? Is that true?
Will this http://www.incartunes.co.uk/pc7-bmw-01-aux-in-adaptor-580-p.asp fit my car? I have also read that is u install a "ashtray aux" the bass isnt that great or? please help a rookie :(

I think they all have a CD changer plug even if they don't have a CD changer fitter, or at least a spare input. I'm new to this though, so could be wrong. I'm looking to do exactly the same mod on the same car so if someone can say with confidence would be good to know!

Another thumbs up, same as first post, I have 2003 2.5 and would like to put a cable in to play my ipod music :-)

Yes you can use AUX and leave the CD changer prep wiring connected. It is possible to have both at the same time.

You only need to disconnect the changer if you want to use an Intravee, Dension or Dice unit.

The above AUX lead should be OK, but it might be worth buying on that is confirmed OK by other members as they have been know to be problematic if they aren't made correctly and miss resistors.

Okey...so.. Can anyone confirm that http://www.incartunes.co.uk/pc7-bmw-01-aux-in-adaptor-580-p.asp will work? Anyone who have done it? :)

I've got that lead - bought with the inline circuit board - and it's perfect. Easy to fit and no reduction in sound quality/balance.

Just bought one of these with inline board, not as good build quality as I was hoping for. The clip at the end is white and grimy, not too sure about the strength of the connection as well if it's going to be jiggling about a lot. It's much shorter than the picture as well:

You bought it from this incartunes.co.uk? Have you tested it? If not, please tell us how it is. Mine cable is shipped and I'm waiting for it, I'll let u know how mine is when I installed it! :)

Yeah from incartunes.co.uk, sent them an email asking for a replacement one which is the length depicted on their store page. The length it currently is doesn't give me much choice in where to run it.

Edit: Just got a reply back from them, they are helpful. He said that it's length is specific for Z4 and is designed to reach ash tray. I think I'll try using it, if it's not long enough will send it back.

Support is very good and quick, they are also updating the product page to reduce confusion. They said they'd happily take it back at a later date if it's not right.

Cables shouldn't make any difference to sound quality. The 'premium' expensive cables you get in hi-fi shops are total rip offs and borderline scams. Some expensive cables do EQ the sound, but why have a cable to do that? Better to get an EQ unit.

Don't expect it to sound good or bad, it will just sound how it is and the cable should be having a neutral impact on the quality. This cable is a functional upgrade so I can plug my iPod in :)
