is it just me....

In an attempt to add some lighthearted approach to this thread:-

A women who is three months pregnant falls into a deep coma - six months later she awakes and asks the doctor about her baby......
Doctor : " you had twins a boy and a girl and they are both fine - luckily your brother named them for you "
Women : "oh no not my brother he's a lunatic who drives a z4 - what did he name the girl ? "
Doctor : "denise"
Women : "well that's not too bad - what did he call the boy?"
Doctor : "denephew"

I reckon the mods should come down harder on definite offenders. Seriously; its pretty obvious if somebody is deliberately being hateful and it absolutely leaves a bad taste. One chance and your out. This is a members forum, a lot like a physical members club and as such there are shared similairities in the way you could handle stonewall issues.

In fairness, WLH has been pretty on the ball recently and I am sure a couple of stern PMs have been sent too.

As for financial means being important - if anyone thinks I can actually afford to spend £16k on a car outright then you're sorely mistaken. It's the attitude - learned elsewhere, adopted in here, or inherent to personality - that defines how you come across online. That, and taking even just a little care about how you say what you want to say. Neither of which really have anything to do with money or social class.

You know what I meant by 'in-crowd' and if one of those put a bumper car pic on your thread it would have been met with
...Can't be arsed Cazza, not going to get dragged into this one like last time.

You put yourself in the mix Lux, nobody drags you in.

Can't be arsed with you or this now any more either.

Outta here, bye all.

Funny thing is if there is an 'in-crowd', I'd have had you in it Lux :?

But there isn't really, there's proper friendships behind a lot of what appears to be cliques. As I think I pointed out elsewhere fairly recently...

Maybe another issue is that topics start out as discussions and before you know it old threads and posts are being dragged up to be debated. Stuff that was put to bed because it caused tension rears it's head and causes more friction.

If I find that someone is targeting me or someone else and I'm not wanting to get involved anymore I use the foe button and then I don't need to see it. I can still choose to see what they post and if it's something worthwhile I can quote and comment.

If people have issues with one another then take it out of the thread and to the private messaging area. I'm sure we are all grown up enough to do that and it doesn't spoil it for everyone else.

On some forums you'd be banned before the topic got out of hand!

I've spent a lot less time on the Forum this year than in previous years. For me it's not because of any particular demographic or anything like that. After all my car is still cheaper than a new Ford Fiesta to purchase.

No, there are several reasons, which I have mentioned to one or two good Forum friends over a PM or two over the last few months. They are a) some of the bickering and a few contributors that I think have lowered the standard of posting we used to see. There are a handful who seem to post solely to wind-up other people but they are growing in number; b) a sense that people had got bored of my opinions (and I can be opinionated, I know that). I just feel I don't have that much to contribute anymore and having owned a Zed for nearly 10 years I've probably got bored of them. c) I'm not a fan of the E89 (nice car without a doubt but doesn't float my boat at all) so have no real interest in it or the threads about it so as the proportion of content about the E89 increases my interest diminishes. Please don't take that as a slight at the E89 - it isn't meant to be, it's just not a car I love or am interested in. I appreciate that a lot of people feel the same about the E85/6. d) I suspect also the Forum is starting to enter a period of long-term decline. I think we all know now that there is no new Z4 waiting in the wings. The model will soon be defunct and so people will be moving on to new models and marques rather than trading in for a new Zed. We've already seen a lot more of that in the last 12 months than in the previous 3 years I was a member on here.

I think also that as the model matures and most of the wrinkles, problems, mods etc get known about, rectified, how-to'd the balance of new topics switches from being model specific in the main to general discussion topics about non-Zed related stuff, where peoples' biases (including mine) are more readily aired for people to see and fall out about.

This place isn't the friendly place it once was :( It's the reason I'm not on as much. Lots of swearing too.

I agree Ruby , the early cars being too cheap now isnt helping

So is the "C" word being fully removed? I can still type it. Carol carol carol carol!

All jokes aside. I am the self proclaimed youngest member here at 17, and yet it shockes me that there are some members that are much less mature than me. I'd have imagined that a forum full of adults would seem like it but there is always those threads that get out of hand and childesh attitudes come out.

And as for the price conversation. I can see were some of you are coming from but you can't judge a book by its cover. Regardless if its cheap plastic or made of the finest leather money can buy! not everyone is the exact same. I say we can speak what's on our mind but consider the other persons position. But please keep your mouth shut if its just a dumb remark to start something. :poke: and don't add fuel to the fire if its a dumb post towards you or somebody else. Atleast your getting a sweet view on the high road! 8).

Sorry if I rambled and this made no sense.

Not sure you can blame it on the price of the cars  they still cost the same (more, actually) to run and maintain than when they were new, so that doesn't really add up.

I had a brand new Ford Focus ST3 before which cost 20k, not that it makes any difference.

I've had a great time on here, right up to being accused of scamming even though I was buying something. Since then, everything I post gets nitpicked and it's actually laughable.

Not everyone can agree on every subject and a forum wouldn't be a forum without differing opinions.

To also be accused not contributing as much as someone else is also laughable. Sounds a bit like a willy waving contest. I've learnt a lot from this forum, and I like to think i've helped others with problems they've had. But if that's not good enough. Then so be it. Doesn't really bother me.

Joined this forum and really enjoyed the wealth of information. It seems that only a few members don't want to see/hear what you are posting, making remarks like "not worth looking at" or "didn't miss anything". Also a few members consider people like me an outsider, maybe because I'm from the US or not in their buddy group. I'm just using a slight few who show this kind of treatment.
Most everyone in this forum are good people with good information .
Would never had said anything as stated above, but the opportunity came open.
Peace, cheers.

Well, finally
Hah! I'm over it now and decided that Caz can't help it as she doesn't know any better...

...and it would be inconsiderate of me to deprive you of my, oft-times, valuable insights into the human condition...

...and I'm a sad bugger who has nothing more interesting to occupy my time...

Been to the national meet this weekend were everybody without exception was Fab ! Maybe a few visits to meets would calm them down
and help them realise their talking to real people when on the forum :)

Distinct absence of E89 presence in this thread thus far. Is this due to the nouveau riche crowd, not suffering with ex saxo hot heads.
:D
Sorry can't chat at the moment the butler has just arrived with breakfast

Carol M & Ruby, I think that one of the reasons that forum has got a bit of angst recently is because you gals post much less than you used to, vicious circle it would seem as it appears that you post less because of the angst & swearing, perhaps we need a bit more oestrogen on this forum to balance things out.

Before Ian started this thread I had actually noticed just how much negativity towards other members there was around recently, I've even noticed it increasing in the 8-9 months I've been on here.

Can I politely suggest that if someone gets your back up you resist commenting until you've had sufficient time to reflect on it, by which time you'll either laugh it off, or you will still be justifiably miffed enough to make a comment - all be it with less venom perhaps.

It would be a real shame if Carol & Ruby decided to no longer contribute in any way, plus how would we know when it's our Birthdays :D

Take it easy guys, what we discuss are just cars, who we are commenting on are real people with real feelings behind the keyboards.

Tony

I've not been on here long so maybe i've missed some of the more offensive threads that people are talking about, but compared to some of the other car forums i've been on this place seems a lot friendlier/more mature.
Having been to the national meet this weekend, I can say everyone I've met was very friendly. I think metal licker has a point about people calming down if they get themselves along to a few meets and get to know the people behind the avatar :)
