is it just me....

OP, despite the fact I have just criticised a remark you made regarding Burberry and tracksuits, I do agree with you. I make the point at the end of my reply to your post.

However, I include you in the blame, as I think what you said was arrogant. Your remark about the car and price bracket (above) backs this up, what do you think is going on? Are there some lower class citizens daring to post on your sacred board? If you sound up your own arse, you will get people's backs up.

But I did make the point that I feel as though the boards aren't as chilled and enjoyable as they once were.

I did make mention of the fact that I'm well aware of being drawn into it, and also aware that i can be a bit of a keyboard warrior.
I make no bones about it - I have been particularly harsh in some of my reply posts.
But, the key difference is I never actually start the sniping or snideness on any of the threads - i've just been replying to them.
and it's a very recent thing, as quite frankly, it's been grating at me for a while and I'd had enough of staying quiet (likely alcohol helped with that part).

I'd tried to word my reply so that I wasn't coming across and saying I entirely agreed with the price bracketing point. I used the word maybe right at the start, as I really don't know if that is the case. I don't think I ever will.

As for what I think, maybe I do believe there is a type of person that the z4 is becoming appealing to now due to the reduction in price, and maybe I do feel that type of person is someone I would rather not have posting here. That doesn't make me up my own arse, but it does make me opinionated - and those opinions are formed from my experiences..

There are a wide array of people who can now afford a zed, who couldn't before, and I've not got a problem with most of them.
I do have a problem with the small minority of 'nobbers' as I'd like to refer to them as. They've no respect for others, quite happy to insult and disrespect others, and seem to take pride in generally being a nob in regards to common decency - and I'm talking about out in the 'real world'. If they don't exist where you live, then I mean it when I say I'm happy for you.
Sadly, they are all over nottingham; driving whatever car they have around the inner ring roads, flat out regardless of traffic conditions, revving the nuts off their car in the public carpark of a residential area late at night. crashing into walls causing them to fall over and driving off without admitting responsibility. (this happened just this weekend in my normally quiet village.. the culprits were caught, both young lads bombing around in a modified Astra VXR, neither of which points came as a surprise)
I'm sorry to say that this all happens within 10 miles of my front door on a daily basis. you only have to read the local rag to see yet another story of some 'nobber' causing grief or antagonising someone for their own pleasure... and they almost always fit the very same profile.

There are people like that across all brackets of financial levels, but it's more commonly found in those with a little less to spend on a car than others.
I'm sorry, but that's how it truly is where I live.

I'm not rich. I've been on the dole. I've been nearly homeless. I didn't get my zed brand new. I don't dress in designer clobber. I don't fart champagne bubbles.. but I certainly don't like that type of person, and I'd much prefer they didn't bring their "real world" attitude onto a forum that I've gained so much information from and so many friends.

tis all.

As I'm not a keyboard warrior and certainly not someone who goes around forums looking for disagreements, I will happily say that this is a decent response.

I'm not saying I agree with everything you say, but I can understand your dismay at the situation and happenings that you allude to. Perhaps it is my thorough dislike of snobs and snobbish behaviour that caused me to go on the defensive in the first instance.

I reckon this forum might be the best I have joined, perhaps the TT forums edges it slightly, either way I reckon the key is just to keep sharing information and opinions about the cars. This will always out do bickering and childishness.

Well guys I am a very dissapointed !

Firstly you all claim that the forum has gone down hill in the last twelve months ( just as I joined in October last year)

Secondly you claim that the drop in price of the e85 has allowed some undesirables to join the forum - my e85 was £7k and I couldn't afford much more at the time... Does that make me an undesirable ???

I am proud of owning my Z4 and have loved everyminute of being here on the forum and have always enjoyed help and support from like mineded individuals (AS I THOUGHT)
but to be honest I feel like the poor relation reading some of your comments......maybe comments regarding the clientele are the very reason people feel devalued and 2nd class !

Since when in the rules of the forum does it suggest you have to be rich to afford a nearly new Z4 so older cars don't bring the tone of the forum down !!!!!

Saddened by all of this, maybe I should leave and come back when I have a brand new Z thus keepin the standard up and members happy.

As I tried to say in my post, that was not my intention, nor I believe the intention of others (at least, thats what I think).
I didn't buy my zed new either, and it was right at the very top of what I could stretch to at the time as well.. probably thinking back, it was more likely a tad above that.

if you took offence from my comments, I'll offer you my sincere apology, as I believe you to be a positive member here.

Have to agree with Ruby about the language. Our Essex friend is one of the worst.

Why isn't see you next Tuesday blocked?

But I do hate the keyboard warriors. Would be interesting to met a few face to face. It would appear Marius was completely different in person without his screen to hide behind.

I don't know if the sniping is a recent feature - I've only been here six months but frankly an earlier thread I read where Carol came under attack was irritating and unnecessary but probably a reflection of today's society. Good manners appear to have been replaced with cheap and snide remarks.

I sincerely hope the ignorant minority don't put off the other contributors as I for one enjoy reading their comments on what has so far been a friendly forum.

I think this a good point well made. Maybe the reason people do get so uptight about the quality is due to the fact that an enjoyable, friendly forum is hard to find elsewhere. Not sure how many people here really believe its a financial capability thing.

But what do I know. I've not even got a Z4

How was Marius in person? He had been such a colossal moron on here (and the TT Forum) that I don't think I could have met the lad without hitting him, he wouldn't even have had to speak. Don't tell me he was sound?!

Lux, I'll answer you here as Bill has locked the other thread.
I got peed off at people after my sons crash as they were posting nasty comments on something they couldn't possibly know about as they weren't there.
Racing on a public road was being discussed on the other thread which, clearly, is wrong and was admitted was going on.

My comment wasn't at all nasty Cazza, and I felt you got arsey with me....maybe I was wrong as things don't come a cross as meant sometimes!?
....that's why arguments happen on here mainly, text comes across differently than if people were sat face to face.

Lux, the reason you got on my wick was because you put a picture up of a battered car or something, can't remember now. My lad had just wrote his car off and, as a mom, I was upset and worried. Thought that was a bit out of order even by your standards. You may understand when your kids are first driving.
I wasn't referring to your comments as being nasty, it was other people.

Thank you for your response sk93 I appreciate your comments and the fact you consider me a positive member here - sadly I don't know too much about cars and their oily bits but will always try to offer love, friendship and a smile to you all on here....

Now then for all you close to me here in Manchester there is a fridge full of cold beers or a cup of earl grey if you prefer!

I frequent a few other forum's & this place has always been leagues ahead in term's of like minded individual's who for the most part know how to get their thought's over without being abrasive .
That said by the sheer number of posts & posters there will always be niggles & after almost 2 years here don't see it as going downhill recently :?
If i was having a guess i would say under 5% of posts carry any animosity (probably less ? )
I wouldn't go looking for something that isn't there

I'm with Mr Wilks

Plus if you say a thing people begin to believe it so let's highlight the masses of positive posts that make this a really useful and friendly place.

It is very noticeable though when someone posts in an 'unusual' and 'unexpected and unpleasant' way - surely a clear indication that 'they' are out of step with the expected and usual tone on this forum.

Bing's right - such moments pass (but it is sadly a shame that there should be casualties)

Finally - I've met just as many unpleasant folk with expensive cars as I have affordable ones - let's avoid being econojudgementist!

:driving:

It was a picture of the yellow Inbetweeners Fiat Cinquecento , as his new car was yellow and he's a young lad...that's all. :(
....also, I don't know why you feel the need to say 'even by my standards' I haven't had a ding dong with anyone, since our little outburst a couple of years ago! You seem to be the one to bite back at people (justifiably sometimes, not always) but even if not justified you seem to get supported by the usual 'in-crowd' and the blame is then deflected.....that's the way I see it.

Let's get over it, move on, and remember to count to 10 and take a deep breath occasionally. If a thread starts going off topic in a bad way the best thing anyone can do is ignore the negativity and post on-topic - give everyone something else to talk about and I guarantee that anybody being a twat will get bored and leave the thread, possibly even the forum.

And I agree with srhutch - the c word needs blocked completely. Not even any asterisks. Excessive profanity should also warrant a warning, though that's harder to police.

I used to be on mg-rover forums (yes my first car was a rover :poke: ) and they were really strict. Granted most of us on there were sharing information on technical stuff as most newbies were asking about head gaskets. But anyway, they had strict rules about swearing, no caps locks to be used, good spelling etc etc and mods would comment. They must have had too much time on their hands.

I reckon the mods should come down harder on definite offenders. Seriously; its pretty obvious if somebody is deliberately being hateful and it absolutely leaves a bad taste. One chance and your out. This is a members forum, a lot like a physical members club and as such there are shared similairities in the way you could handle stonewall issues.

No it wasn't, it was a bashed up yellow bumper car. (I've just checked) really helpful picture to put on my thread wouldn't you say?
Bit harsh to say, 'by your standards', sorry. What I meant was you are usually quite provocative and/or sarcastic and I thought the bumper car picture was out of order. Seems like I can't object tho?
Who exactly do you mean by the 'usual in-crowd'? People who take the blame for me? Don't be ridiculous. I can hold my own and speak for myself as well as take any blame that needs to be taken.
I really don't see anyone else on here who speaks their mind getting as much flak for it as me or getting told I am the one who bites back. Why the hell shouldn't I?
