iphone 5 rumors

Signal strength.. fair, but the nokias are supreme with signal strength. Battery life also fair but I get a full day out of mine easy, and I use it all day for music at work. It does have a dual core processor and that screen also takes a lot of bat as well as 3G and wifi. There are ways of reducing it. But all smart phone struggle, battery tech is crap.

Siri will also come into its own, again its first gen... and it does work. Better in america tho, but again its not a feature thats a deal breaker.

I still have my 3GS and it is like a snail compared to my 4S, the new OS killed it. Again its progress, like trying to run the latest and greatest on something old, every upgrade needs more power.

To be fair Tom I may be being harsh on the iPhone - the signal strength and battery life issues might be smartphone issues as opposed to iPhone issues.

I don't think Siri will ever be more than a gimmick though. Many have tried voice control, none have mastered it. There are too many accents, dialects for it to ever work seamlessly. Just think of how differently people in England speak English and then multiply that by all the countries in the world.

I agree on the 3GS - iOS5 did kill it.

What I don't want is Apple to think they need to copy Samsung and enlarge the phone and screen. It's perfectly good as it is size wise. I'd be delighted with incremental improvement of what is ergonomically the best smartphone there is.

I disagree with the comments about the iphone and ipad being the right size. I fell other vendors that use andriod os have much better choice in this area

Im currently involved in a POC for mobile device management and the 'real world' feedback is that the iphone is too small and the ipad too big, but the galaxy tablets are just the right size - cue the 3 bear jokes :)

Apple just seem to rigid in their products, from this they will loose more and more market share from this approach

a quick (poor qual) vid just showing that you can use the iphone as a virtual desktop to access your work applications and data, but its tricky to say the least

I really think people are making too big a thing about the dock connector... there will be a converter to connect all your existing cables to the new iPhone... it might come with one, it might not.. either way they'll be on ebay for 99p within weeks.
I have to agree :)

Its probs because your virtual desktop is windows :poke:

Desktops were never designed to be used on a screen that small, even if it were an inch bigger it would still be awful, which is why they run their own OS Apple made that clear on the first presentation of IOS. Windows was never designed for touch either... and the crap touch APIs they put in were awful at best, which is why they have gone with something completely different with windows 8. And another reason why apple never designed a touch screen iMac. Its counter intuitive.

I dont know, I dont want the phone to be any bigger, If anything it would be nice to keep the screen the same size but remove the forehead at the top of the phone and reduce the chin too. A smaller iPad maybe nice but again this is the problem there is no need for 3 different sizes, and for a decent experience it is big. The iPad is a lounge accessory, when i see people taking them with them im like whats the point... use an iPhone and even if there were one in between where would you put it!? too big for a pocket too big for small pockets on bags, and too small for larger compartments of bags so it would roll around.

Its a decision which is why they never made a smaller tower. Apple wont create another product that will cause detriment to another, which although there is rumour of a smaller iPad, im a firm believer that we won't see one unless they replace the current iPad size with it.

My mate has one of those galaxy xl phone and he looks like an idiot walking around with it, its massive! Looks like a reject from the late nineties if he had a pull out pen it would top it off.

you’ve still got the fanboy spec's on tom :)

Like I have said in previous threads im no fanboy of these vendors. My point is with BYOD and consumerisation taking precedence in the workplace, staff need more choice on mobile devices (size/os/application base) and I feel apple is stifling the market place with their heavy weight lawyers and bags of cash.

Surely this cannot be good for the consumer?

Ye your not wrong, Apples business plan for workplace application isnt great. Outlook is about as broad as it goes.. But business and consumer products and application do differ but Apple doesn't offer a proper business solution, as most of the products that are industry standard Apple doesn't deal with a great deal.

It has even left its creative pros in the sh*t and left them for consumer products.

iPhone is great size. Bigger would be too much IMO. Smaller would be hard to read some web pages.

More battery life and better reception would keep me happy. I will be getting one to replace my iP4

I have a 4S and love it, but I'm not going to get starry eyed over it. Just like the Android and Blackberrys that preceeded it, it has buggy apps, and the lack of replaceable battery or add in memory card is a PITA. The fact that I can use the same chargers for my iPods is nice, but that will go away come iPhone 5 by the looks of it. So two Bose Sounddocks and a couple of Pure DAB radios will no longer be usable with the phone, or certainly not as conveniently. That's a massive embuggerance. If they are going to change connector, at least change to something that enables open standards.

gonna wait till the iphone has a built in projector and a 10 million amp battery
ive wanted a projector for years. with the wireless syncing and huge power these days couldn't they just make a load of mini attachments with cool features.. for example

put phone next to tv and the screen transfers
wireless charging mats (which i know are around)
quick memory transfer.. swipe phone near computer and it acts like a memory stick
specialist camera lenses
projectors
3d attachments

list could go on and on. im getting sick of the tiny amount of changes they have made over the last 3 models when there is so much they could do

Manufactures will drip feed enhancements so that you will always upgrade - not just unique to Apple!

Agree 100%. Not even a very useful lounge accessory either. Buy a MacBook Air or the equivalent Windows based laptop.

I know I will draw the wrath of the Apple fan boys but I've never seen the point of the iPad. A triumph of marketing over substance.

Oh I'm a complete convert, I use my iPad considerably more than my 4S, but it fits in my handbag so almost perfect portability. As a designer I love their products, exceptionally well made and easy to use, But like any mega corporation the are solely interested in making more money and it's getting out of hand with Samsung. A television looks like a television because of form, a tablet is exactly the same, so is a smart phone and in the end it is down to housing a standard screen resolution.

But to answer the OP of course I will.

I like my iPhone 4. I've had once since they launched back in 2007.

For me it was a no brainer. I've used Macs for years and the OS familiarity with the device was key. Back in 2007 it was a wonderous thing too amongst the Nokias, Samsungs and Sony's of the mid to late Noughties.

Still like my iPhone 4 and for me the build quality, speed and usability have just got better and better. I can link up my other devices to the internet through Personal Hotspot. I can edit photos with Snapseed. I can waste hours playing Drop7 or Infinity Gene (check them out); or I can talk to my brothers or friends via Skype/Facetime and it feels like a future experience. The 4 seems to have held up pretty well in the two years I've had it and only now is starting to show signs of slowing as I challenge it to deal with more.

What I dont like is the fact that I've been a sucker. I fell for it hook line and sinker. The dream of the future in the palm of your hand. Those sultry glass and metal looks. The fact I no longer have the joyous task of choosing a new and different phone when my contract is up. That damn App Store. In the 5 years I've been an iPhone user I must have bought around 300 Apps; at least. I'm almost too scared to check the exact amount. Many of which I'll never use again (paper toss/sleep timer etc etc etc) but a few I rely on. I can't convert. Even if Samsung produced an amazing and practically sized device I'd still be with Apple. I've invested far too much into it. It makes me feel both content and conned all at the same time.

So when the iPhone 5 is released, all you Android and other OS users spare a little thought for us iPhone guys. It's not really our fault so please dont shout. We were tricked and now we're like happy junkies. I will be there
Probably a few months after launch renegotiating a contract that locks me in again for a ridiculously large portion of my life (you get less for armed robbery).

How did it come to this?

Personally, for my use, I don't need an iPad... but all I will say is anyone who has dealt with years of "tech support calls" from parents with Windows PC's, who then experienced that parent buying an iPad will definitely see the point in them. Since my Dad moved to the iMac and my Mum to the iPad I have rarely had to help them out with why their computer is going slow/crashing etc.

The iPad is a great bit of kit, just because those of us a bit younger (more dexterous fingers, so get an iPhone) or a bit more technical or with greater needs (get a laptop) don't "see the point" it doesn't mean there isn't one.

My Mum loves her iPad, and I love the fact that she has one (or rather that she doesn't have a Windows laptop anymore!) :D

With the current pics it looks a design shambles, not worthy of a new product title in terms of design. I really hope its a fake. As to the adapter as I have said in other threads it is a 10 year old deisgn, and the only thing apart from the 35mm head phone jack that decides the product thickness. Progress is progress.

iphone_5_2012_ilab.jpg

Looks like another 'non' Ive creation to me.

Ye same as a designer I feel the same way sars. Difference is I have no need what so ever for an iPad just like spectre and at £500+ for a glorified iPhone I still wont buy one. If Adobe wack the creative suit or lightroom on it or do I say it... A decent pen with pressure sensitivity It will be a fantastic device for me. It just hasn't matured quickly enough for me. But then it is a consumer device... but people like David Hockney have used it for full on art creation...

I went to see A Bigger Picture by David Hockney at the Royal Academy of Arts and (the stuff is not really my taste, but I like to consume as much visual as I can for inspiration) but his artwork on the iPad was incredible! He is also 74 years old, says it all really.

I find making purchases like this difficult unless it increases my productivity... sad, as my impulse purchases are going down... lol. But anyway my 13" macbook pro does everything I want and more compared to the iPad, I can work away from the desk and on location with it on shoots, and edit my images on the fly, show clients work in real time programs etc which is what I need, its great for personal use too. The only thing I dont really use it for is my graphic design work because the screen is too small for intricate work but I have an iMac and mac pro so those are my other solutions. It will be replaced by the 13" MBA next simply because I love using it and they aren't that much bigger than iPads but have 100x more usability as a professional. Yes they are twice the money but I make money with it so its a no brainer really.

I have to agree with sp3ctre again. I didnt buy myself one but my mum and she is hooked it does everything she wants on a good screen, portable in the house, she streams music to random systems in the house while doing house work etc and all her email and aps are there. I didnt show her how to do any of it either... Instead of the typical 'TOM! Show me how to do this' the technology made her explore what it could do. I dont hear a dicky bird from her, whereas with the iMac I bought her she would never use it because it was in a different room and couldn't use it while cooking or watching tv ect, and she didn't want to use it for that reason.

Which is my point earlier they just work and for Apple has looked at 90% of the market and designed to it. I mean my Nana at nearly 80 has one! Since when have tech companies been able to target the over 70 market successfully?? When you grab an iPad you just know what to do with it.. its almost natural. It is fantastic design. But I would buy my GF one instead of a laptop etc simply because that 90% audience want it for email, music and video, web browsing, fun etc and the iPad does all of this better than any other device on the market, including laptops and desktops.

Thats the point, these devices are designed for the biggest target audience I think a lot of people on here as forumites are tinkerers probably in that 10% Apple products weren't designed for, and want more or lust after more features, but are missing the point of the device. Which is why there are other items on the market. At the end of the day volume speaks for itself. It is a complete winner, they wanted to target the people who were almost scared of technology and create a great looking device. Minimal and encapsulates everything you need in a stunning package. Exactly the same as the iPhone.
