iphone 5 rumors

I have a iPhone 4 and will likely seriously consider the 5 as I am running out of room on my 4... :(

Whether you want a phone that is thinner or not... its the direction of technology. Im not disputing just trying to make you understand why.

If you want faster internet buy faster speed... the wireless card in the 4s is the fastest card you can get. Want faster mobile internet... its tied to your provider & area.. and obviously the UK is behind everyone with mobile internet speed. The dropped call thing has been 99% solved with a firmware which is why the issue has disappeared.

I personally don't like any of these massive phones tablet style phones, the current iPhone is big enough! Only just fits in my pocket anyway! If I wanted a tablet I would go buy one! The rest of the technology world is yet again trying to mould tech together and then it ruins the market, or creates stupid products that dont last. Rather have a device that works well, rather than have every piece of tech available is like a swiss army knife and looks stupid. But im more of a purist in design, less is more.

Apple is renowned for removing all the crap you 'could' need and focusing on the stuff that is 'necessary'. This style of design is a purist, focusing on form and encapsulating function. Which is another reason why they designed theyre own connector. USB is ugly and looks completely out of sorts on a phone even micro USB. They have been battered for it in the past but who is now the world leader?

The point of apples connector is that it is the same throughout the product range, and probably because micro USB wasnt invented back then. The original one is firewire 400 as USB 1.0 was far too slow and kept the connector for the rest of the range.

You have to remember the connector was design for the original iPod in 2001 that is 11 years ago! The fact it is still the same form is incredible 11 years later.

I dont know why everyone complains about the iPhone its still the best at what is does in the whole market. Largest amount of Aps that are overseen so they work properly, high res screen, the best res camera (simply because it has the largest sensor), the best ecosystem by far for digital media, and also the best OS, smooth and stable and is based on OSX, even tho these companies have just caught up and have created compelling OS they dont have the foundation IOS has, because most are so new. IOS 1 was slow, not very feature packed because it was new, its now on its 5th generation. That is the difference. You have to also remember IOS5 have been out over a year!!! IOS 6 is to be announced later this year, with some awesome improvements.

Also about the design... how exactly is the iPhone a bad design? It is the classic and everyone has copied it! If you look at all pre-iphone smart phones phones then fast forward to post iPhone... But I have a very strong feeling the images we have seen are fakes. Or there would have been a huge investigation like with the iPhone 4.

People are always fast to criticise but without the iPhone there wouldn't be this generation of media phones. People need to stop being so impatient and enjoy the experience. If you dont like it go elsewhere.

Tom, I do hope you have shares in Apple - if not you should do PR for them, you would be relentless ;)

Windows mobile anyone?

I did, and the world outside Apple is very much alive and a very happy place indeed. Free from restrictions and ridiculous price over function.

Don't get me wrong, I like Apple kit and if I had stupid money to chuck around on something that I can get equal or better specification FOR LESS £, then I would be back with them again.

They are going to have to pull out the stops with the 5 to convince me to go back again, because Android is a very strong proposition indeed.

Good write-up Tom, completely agree with you.

People will always complain that their bits and bobs don't work anymore when things are changed, but as Tom says this connector has been around for donkey's years and Apple has been very loyal indeed to that old connector. Technically it is a horrible connector, plagued with issues from water damaging it easily, dust causing problems etc... there is far too much to go wrong with a connector with that many pins.

I actually like the magsafe rumour of a connector that will fit either way round. as soon as people get used to it I'm sure people will love it. As for the spec dock, I'm sure they will make a compatible one that you can buy (if they don't do a converter) and you'll likely be compatible for the next 11 years or so... that's not so bad :)

I have the Dension IceLink that I bought for my 3GS... I was surprised to find the iPhone 4 was compatible, I expected to have to buy an upgrade to the Dension. If it weren't for the technical issues of the connector I'd say I agree with you guys, but something needs to be done about it, it's technically horrible, so I for one will suck it up and buy the converters I need, until I buy new kit that has the new connector.

Haha I should work for Apple or at least get a cut!

I agree, they are top dollar, and the others are compelling, but at the same time you have an integrated system with Apple, and everything I own is Apple as ive been using it for over 7 years, personally and in my industry. Everyone has an iPod so all there music will be on iTunes, get a different device and you have to use two pieces of software with the same music on both to have music on both devices etc etc

Moving to anything else is infuriating not because I cant use it, just because I dont feel its anywhere near on the same scale of usability. Just like every time I use a windows machine I cant wait to get off it.

Also iPhone and the mac OS is just designed to work.. with windows to sort them out you need to know what you are doing most dont, which is why the mac has become popular. When computers slow people thought Oh!! Il buy a new machine, but in reality a fresh install will do the trick but thats the story with Microsoft, they aren't as user friendly and the target audience is far too big which is why there are 20 million versions that confuse the hell out of most.

Average people cant be bothered to mess around with them. Its different with android, most people that like them are techy people because they can do what ever they like with them and install what ever they want on them, which is great. But making them less stable. Similar to flash it runs... but like a complete dog.. which is why Apple got rid of it and in turn made people focus on HTML5. The mantra at apple is different everything is made by them, from the hardware to the software and everything works seamlessly. Even down to the control of Aps which I think is fair.. its designed as a closed system and techys dont like it which is fine. But for most that just want something that works and has fantastic design then its the perfect device.

I used to be a computer builder and complete tech geek... until I needed something stable and have got used to just using something that works that I don't have to constantly mess with.

Nothing like a bit of one sided propaganda

I like apple products but hate the restrictions on cross compatability (including stupid connector)...

Now if Apple produced cross-compatable products where would we be...

Cheers :)

Also complaining about the connector...

With iPhone/iPod being the dominant music leader... can you even get docks for the other variants... probably not because they all use different connector types. It probably changes from generation to generation. Just like the stupid charge connectors! Because coehierent design isnt a strong suit. I remeber the old nokia cables getting the upgrade and finding my old one didn't fit.

Also on that note how many can actually tell me a breakthrough product from any of these companies in the last 10 years? The last great OS from microsoft was XP, vista a complete shambles and 7 a vast improvement but I would hardly call it breakthrough more WOW IT WORKS! The last breakthrough phone from Nokia was the 3210 and 3310.. and then sony... it fell off the map after it invented CDs these are all 10-20 years old!

I think sp3ctre nailed it there.

It's all true

I'll be in the queue at Westfields on launch day, and will sell it a week later because I can't get myself away from my 4 year old Nokia!!!!

Amen brother...

Without my Apple kit doing what I do would be much more boring and less captivating. If you enjoy what you work on then your productivity is much higher.

the whole court case over the design is stupid. they all look the same because they are all designed around the golden ratio.there isnt much u can change design wise and still have an appealing design... if anyone is entitled to royalties it should be the greeks for discovering it :fuelfire:

Oh, and don't forget that the iPhone nearly solved all world crime too

Mini IPad for sure....I'd be well up for that, and then my white Galaxy Note, which I have never used, can go!!

I'm eagerly awaiting the new iPhone, msimply because my 3GS is well over due for replacement. It slows down too often and has a lot of dust under the screen.
I'll stick with apple because the upgrade will be simple and the quality of the hardware is always good.

It seems there cold be a huge waiting list for the new iPhone though, I can see it breaking previous sales records.

As well as lacking dancing music players  I don't believe Apple have developed a robot OS yet? Jeees, sooo behind the times

I do like my iPhone 4 and i like its design but its far from perfect. Signal strength is poor. My old Nokia was much better. Battery life isn't much cop either. If I went to the office without my charger I'd be buggered by 3pm. That's a major flaw. My g/friends 4s doesn't seem to have solved ANY of these issues. She wishes she kept her 3GS and waited for this years release.

Oh and don't even get me started on that pile of crap Siri. I don't know how much Apple bought Siri for but whatever it was they were ripped off.

If there is an adapter that means i can use stuff with my Zeppelin then fine but if there isn't Apple can do one!
