Intravee & Alpine unit (not mine) - and some other random

Good idea. I will try that tomorrow

Feckin' pain I the ass getting to it though. How long do you reckon I need to leave it off - 30mins ?

15 mins is fine, but if you take the negative lead off before you apply your makeup you should be ok 8)

Thought I'd got it wrong, phew.

Bing, thought your gremlins were intravee related with the lights from what I read? Your posts stopped me putting the halos as DRLs just to be safe. Interestingly couldn't get the brake lights to illuminate on unlock on the M, but worked fine in the coupe.

Think I've read every post on the vent removal....the nav removal just adds a whole new dimension of challenge & ability to f*** up when I couldn't even manage the easy 'step one' of vent removal!

This thread could now appear in a search for intravee, vents, cameras, nav, lights, Thai, rattles, CDV benefits, circular saws...anything else? Plus with the benefit of adding zero value to anyone who clicks on the link

The screen removal is simple though. When you removed the vent, there are two legs sticking down from the screen . Just two screws there.

Just remember to remove the plastic rear of the satnav screen on the dash as there are 3 screws underneath. Srhutch should recognise that bit as he drove around for years without putting the screws in ….

I'm pretty sure it is intravee related - but it's never affected only one headlight before, which makes me wonder. When they don't work they spend some time vibrating up and down very slightly, which in theory could wear out the stepper motor I guess. Hopefully disconnecting the battery will reset everything sufficiently that they work again, and I will resist the urge to tinker with settings :D

Does it matter which lead I remove though ?

Always thought you should remove the negative first.

I had a few starting gremlins on a 7yr old battery & found the new battery solved it all.

Might be playing with your lights.

I have my DRL's on via intravee and all is fine. Allan's issue must be down to something else.

Surely that must have rattled?

I think my issue is what to do once (IF  ) I get the screen out, love to find a piece of clip not seated correctly but doubt I will be that lucky. Screen surround all seems aligned & not as though something is out of position.

Is there an echo Matt or are you just slow? :poke:

I had to research my post first, as you are aware...I know nothing about anything technical so had the check what I read when I changed mine a fortnight ago :poke:

Not many fixture points, at the rear end when you remove the screws there are three clips where the screws go in (perhaps a rattle there), the front legs have two screws as well, but can't imagine they rattle. The other bit is the screen cable - perhaps the plug is rattling so you if you do take the screen out, I would put some felt underneath the dash where the cable goes - just in case it rattles from that.

Will give the lights menu another look then

Remember that when this happened the first time PVR reckoned there was a change to the LCM on 2007 cars. And it didn't cause issues on my last car. Given the amount of work my indie pit into trying to find the problem, and the fact that richardp said he'd heard of it on another model (3 series), I'm convinced it's the intravee.

Good point about the battery, not got any other gremlins right now though. The battery on my last car didn't last as long, but did last 80k miles. Not sure if age plays a part until it gets seriously old, more usage surely ? And it was conditioned constantly in PVRs care.

Agreed - the Golf battery is over 10 years old and on the CTEK all the time without issues.

I doubt that the battery is on the way out as such, but if you look at the oddities that Steve had with his recently.

PVR - I will keep my beady on things. If a battery disconnect doesn't sort it then I'll need to disconnect the intravee and go from there.

mj2k, as your car is a 2007 I would recommend you don't set sidelights as DRLs...

Bing, 2097 as in too old or too new? Mine is post face lift, not that anything changed really in the M apart from an airbag light on the opposite side to the sports button.

Will be tackling the vents in about an hours time :?

There is no prefacelift M of course, though it does 'evolve' as the non-prefacelifts do. For example, as a 2006 srhutch's car has the metal fixing for holding the hood down, even though it's not used. Nor does he have 2 radio tuners or an aux port as we do. So things changed between 2006 & 2007, and somewhere PVR read that the LCM changed too.

Battery disconnect didn't work :(

So I have to disconnect the intravee, which will require someone with very small hands. Think I'll leave that for another day... I reckon it's the stepper motor anyway as its only one light not levelling.
