Sems to be a lot of variation of figures, the quote I had this morning from classicline who insures my caterham 7 is £599 which is a bit steep if its possible to get £270 ish. Wonder why when its in a low crime area and I've 5 years ncb and 50 plus age !!!! Will ring them again !
I have had so many insurance company coversations over the years where I've been insured fine for a year and had no accidents or claims and then they ask for 25 to 50% increase for the following year.

They make up a silly excuse like - "oh, it's due to the rising costs of claims at the moment" or "your 1st year was a special introductory rate".
Often, when they are brought to book on this sudden price hike they can actually come close to matching the lower prices you find elsewhere - cheeky b####rs. The rule is look at a lot of insurance quotes and have no loyalty if they try it on.
I use confused.com as I generally find they provide the cheapest quotes out of the online brokers sites. I did a comparison a while ago between Go Compare and Confused and found Confused to be cheaper across the board by up to as much as £200.
The advantages I feel the most useful from Confused is that you can jiggle with the excess to see what that does to the prices and that your details are saved in the system so when you return for another quote you don't have to re-enter them all.
I find that if I set the excess high it brings the cost down. If I bent my car (not too badly of course) I would rather pay a garage to unbend it than try to go through a claim as it would most definately result in a steep if not huge increase in premium the next time I try to insure. I am aware that insurance companies want you to own up to damage even if you didn't put in a claim -

yeah, right, like any sane person is going to do that!
