Sems to be a lot of variation of figures, the quote I had this morning from classicline who insures my caterham 7 is £599 which is a bit steep if its possible to get £270 ish. Wonder why when its in a low crime area and I've 5 years ncb and 50 plus age !!!! Will ring them again !

I have had so many insurance company coversations over the years where I've been insured fine for a year and had no accidents or claims and then they ask for 25 to 50% increase for the following year. :headbang: They make up a silly excuse like - "oh, it's due to the rising costs of claims at the moment" or "your 1st year was a special introductory rate".
Often, when they are brought to book on this sudden price hike they can actually come close to matching the lower prices you find elsewhere - cheeky b####rs. The rule is look at a lot of insurance quotes and have no loyalty if they try it on.
I use confused.com as I generally find they provide the cheapest quotes out of the online brokers sites. I did a comparison a while ago between Go Compare and Confused and found Confused to be cheaper across the board by up to as much as £200.
The advantages I feel the most useful from Confused is that you can jiggle with the excess to see what that does to the prices and that your details are saved in the system so when you return for another quote you don't have to re-enter them all.
I find that if I set the excess high it brings the cost down. If I bent my car (not too badly of course) I would rather pay a garage to unbend it than try to go through a claim as it would most definately result in a steep if not huge increase in premium the next time I try to insure. I am aware that insurance companies want you to own up to damage even if you didn't put in a claim - :tumbleweed: yeah, right, like any sane person is going to do that!

It always amazes me when people get bent out of shape over their renewal prices. Insurance companies are commericial organisations - they will try and get a higher price out of you if they can, they bank on a certain percentage of their customers being too bone idle to price-check.

Just shop around and you'll almost certainly find a better price.

I'm amazed how cheap some people expect to insure a performance car. I bought my first BMW when I was 23 and paid £1400 to insure it. It was a RWD car and I was young.

For the Z4s - they are quick, RWD and desirable for thieves. I shop around, but have always budgeted for high premiums. I'm truly shocked how low some of the premiums are on this thread. However, the low premiums are the exceptions, and shouldn't by any means be taken for granted.

If you want cheap insurance, don't buy a Z4, and certainly don't buy an ///M.

Aren't ins quotes based on post code ? obviously relates to value of vehicle as well and driver record and type of car but post code relates to crime area and I live in the countryside , rural Leics ! Plus I'm mid 50's and my driving record is sensible ie not had any problems with caterham 7 and Tvr owned for 8 years !

Insurance quotes are based on statistics nothing else.

You could live in the nicest part of the leafiest suburb.......if there have been claims for theft then you get a premium hike.

Same reason that insuring a car parked on a drive is cheaper than insuring a car that is garaged (don't believe me? Try a quote).

Varies from insurer to insurer depending on what their modelling says.

Bizzarely i found this to be true and parking it on a "public road" cheaper still

Yes its because a garage attached to a house is threatened by what ever happens in the house. Most common being fire and burglary (stealing keys) etc. They change the statistic all the time, back in the day if you didn't have a garage then insurance was high. Its cheaper on the street because the new fad is breaking into houses to steal car keys, if its on the street its a lottery to tell what cars belong to each house. Cars are very hard to steal without keys these days.

So if your garage is detached I would get that noted and it will be cheaper. My garage is, and my quote was cheaper than it being on the street. But im quite lucky being in a band A area.

Its also because clumsy buggers reverse their car into the garage wall rather than the garage itself :P

Parking on a road makes the car much harder to steal because its out in the open.

Being married means your more likely to have your missus in your ear hole telling you off for speeding

Always find it amusing though how if I get my car stolen my premium will go through the roof because of a 'claim' however my next door neighbours won't.

Surely if its just based on risk then both of us are at just as much risk of a repeat offence? Actually I'm more likely to be alter and take more precautions.

I'm in a small Leicestershire town, the M is insured parked on a driveway with myself and my wife as a named driver, 12 years NCB. £450 per year with Chris Knott.

22 yrs old, 3 yrs ncb, insured on the street £1200
not bad considering i know a few ppl almost twice my age who are paying around 800 for their ///m's

its actually cheaper if u park your car on the street....not sure if everyone knows that??
