Took the Zed over to ETA today for some more work. Also got to take a few photos of the underside which generally looks in pretty fine fettle, albeit suffering from some basic surface rust from the previous owner storing outside under cover (pics below).
The
battery firing circuit airbag light that disappeared after swapping steering wheels, reappeared this morning after 48 hours of being off. After checking with software we were going to try and just code it out, but the
.man file needed to deactivate the light wouldn't save, so Matt at ETA is going to investigate this file further. If it cant be coded out then I'm going to either need to add some kind of resistor to the terminal or replace the positive battery cable in its entirety (including removing trim from back to front). Not ideal, so if anyone has any ideas...
The next thing to check was the
two software updates the car needed. One was for the
steering which updated fine and seems to have helped the sticky steering a little bit. Its still sticky at higher speeds but I'm going to see how it goes over the next few months before getting in and adjusting the steering column ring.
The
second software update we didn't do as BMW have updated info on that specific engine update to say there's a slight risk of damaging the ECU. Thought it best left as is!
The
MFSW buttons issue remains. None of the buttons work and there's a communication error being flagged to the wheel from the car. I may take the wheel off again and check all the connections at some point but to be honest its way down the lost of things to sort.
What we did manage to sort though, was a replacement front
drivers side fog light as mine was cracked, and also located the source of the washer leak being the
drivers side washer jet itself. I've unplugged Fuse 40 and it seems to be leaking less, but at some point I'll need to replace the washer jet itself so will be looking for a second hand replacement soon.
Finally, we
removed the Clutch Delay Valve (CDV), and wow - what a difference! The car now pulls away smoothly and its night and day in traffic using normal clutch control. Cant understand why I never did this on any of my other Zeds in the past. Highly recommended.
Started the day in a cafe on the forum.....
