I am interested to find out how many forum members are now running without any form of warranty, AUC or otherwise?

I have not had any since June, but have been lucky so far although I am sure it is only a matter of time before I 'feel the pain'.

Had insured warranty for a year now. Claimed for the wheel bearing on it (repair is £491). Just renewed at £270.

Yep, thats £180 diagnostic fee!!! Then the part (wheel bearing is a combo bearing and hub unit) then fitting... Glad its covered under the warranty. Its certainly paid for itself. I can't remember the total figures, just was I glanced at while at the dealers.

So, of the 72 views so far, there are only 2 E89 owners without warranty? :(

I am beginning to feel rather paranoid!

I extended my warranty in May and it's the best money I have spent on that car, I've had 2 lots of £1300 fuel pump jobs and a fuel filter, plus replacement brake sensor and 9 days of courtesy car. All for an outlay of £360

I get a car allowance at work so I'm always going to stick with the extended warranty now. None of the faults I had would have taken the car out of action if I didn't have the warranty, but still...

One of the factors in changing my car was that I dont want a car that complicated (folding roof, dct) without a warranty , you would have to be very brave in my opinion

I have BMW warranty. Pay £45 a month with zero excess. Thats for the top level cover.

Used it a couple times for things and had 100% no problem at all with the dealers trying to fleece me

I will certainly get a warranty on mine when the three years up - but like all insurances its a gamble.

The gamble paid of on my Disco 3 - £600 for the warranty then a few weeks later the waste gate actuator failed - The entire turbo unit was changed at a cost of £1200 - BUT since then I haven't had a claim so effectively I'm out of pocket.

I will still buy a warranty again as it will smooth the bumps and I am not disciplined enough to put the premiums away each year. :)

I took it out because I'm guessing turbos, complex roof, DCT etc will be hideously expensive to fix. I've taken the full cover but with £250 excess because I really only want to claim for anything big (like bigger than a light bulb given BMW+stealer tax) and the extra cost to reduce this to £0 excess isn't worth it IMHO.

I decided to commit in March to the £33 per month comprehensive cover with a £100 excess, the DCT / turbo's / roof worried the hell out of me.

My previous e86 was out of warranty and had a sump gasket fail costing nearly £500 at an independent (£1000 plus at the stealers), that was after it had all 4 cats replaced under warrenty.

Anyhow, yesterday the e89 developed a severe misfire & I got the engine fault screen, trip to the dealers today, faulty injector no.2, repair cost £964 :o

just sayin !

hi all, ive been thinking about this too... my 3 years are up at the end of the month.. i've only done 7500 in 3 years.... and yet BMW want £500 per year to extend the warranty ...

expensive folding roof or not.. i cant see the value...

£500 seems steep. That's presumably with recovery in there and a £0 excess? I have the arguably more problematic 35i and mine was £270 for comprehensive cover excluding roadside assistance and with a £250 excess.

At the end of the day, most bits of the car that could fail would cost thousands so a £250 excess is nothing in that context. As for roadside assistance, you get recovery for the basic cover, the extra money you pay is for someone to fix the car by the roadside.. which on a modern car, well, who knows.

I'd say get comprehensive cover and save some cash by opting for an excess.

You will the first time you take it in for a quote to fix your roof, gearbox, drivetrain... basically anything!
