In/Out of Warranty?

Will definitely looking at the BMW Mondial policy when mines up, sounds a bargain for what Maniac is paying.

I'm always in two minds either have the policy or save some money in the hope nothing goes wrong and if it does take it to an indi. I've had the Z3 4 years with no warranty but things slightly caught up with me this year,

Wiring loom failed that feeds into the bootlid, well known problem on E36s and once the cables fractures you lose central locking and brake lights. I bought a new loom at £120 and booked it in to BMW, they quoted me £230 labour but didn't realise how difficult the job would be to do and it took them 2 days but they honoured the quote :)

Few months later front caliper failed and as the discs were past their best anyways booked it into BMW for new discs, calipers, sensors and pads. The bill was £930 :o :? I had no idea a caliper was £210, thought it would be around 60 quid. So on the Z4 I think it will be prudent to have some sort of extended warranty, granted It wont cover brake parts.

Tim.

Before you jump in, take a look at the small print!
Callipers, weren't covered on my landrover policy!

Well, paranoia has finally got the better of me, so I have just signed up for the rather large sum of £637.00. This gives me Comprehensive incl. BMW Insured Emergency Assist. (£250.00 Excess). I did look at the WD offering, a bargain at £1508.00, it only covers 70% of the parts cost, and the exclusion list for a car of this age/mileage is huge and excludes the majority of the electrical system outside of the Engine/Windows Etc. Oh and I would need to have an inspection carried out prior to commencement...

I know it is expensive, and may turn out to be a waste of money, but driving a car like this without any form of cover has become less enjoyable as I find myself constantly listening out for noises that may indicate a potential problem. Hopefully now I have cover, I can relax a little more and enjoy it more... :D

The only oddity is that the cover doesn't start for a month, including the Emergency Assist, so I have another month without protection. :(

Presumably you've had a gap between manufacturers cover and then insured cover?

My insured cover started immediately after the manufacturers and BMW paid the first year as a gesture for some of the issues I've had with mine. I then carried on the cover some weeks ago. This may explain the low price I paid.

Yes, the car was purchased from Sytner Select (Non Franchise) so only came with 3 months of Warranty Direct Mickey Mouse cover (1000.00 max claim, 100.00 excess, drivetrain only) which has subsequently expired. In theory, the warranty should also improve the resale value if I decide to sell sometime next year.

SWMBO is less than impressed though!

Am I flying too close to the Sun not the warranty has expired. Seeing as so far in 18 month I have not had to replace anything and, took it to dealers for a good going over prior to expiry. Ill sleep easy for a while. Glad the servicing package is still valid.

My warranty is up next month and the letter has just hit the floor this morning.

With the issue I had just a few weeks ago with the boot jamming (thread on here) I think i'll be signing up.

Must say though the car has been brilliant lately (touch wood). I really don't want anything else.

To be fair the issues I've had with my car haven't been serious enough to take the car off the road, so without a warranty I would have sort of lived with them, but I'll certainly be renewing mine. I get a car allowance through work anyway so it would be stupid not to.
