I pod connection.

I have the remote fitted where the i-drive would be, and i like it because i can easily reach it and press buttons (its simple to use, and I dont even have to look at it).

although mfsw buttons would be good, I dont think they would allow you to navigate the menu so easily.

Got mine booked in for next week to have the 9200 fitted. Also going to price up adding the door speakers and rear subs as the standard 6-speaker system isn't hitting the spot.

May I ask where you are getting it fitted and at what cost?

Is it a case that all cables and wiring looms specific to your car are inclusive of price and provided by the fitter?

I have bought this, from this seller, and can recommend it highly for a z4. It seems to be the perfect size and mine came with a remote :D I tend to use the AUX output mostly, as it is better sound quality. However, when my phone needs a charge I use the transmitter and it is fine, not always perfect, but mostly fine.

Magicgreg - I've got in booked in with a local installer - BVS from Bedminster in Bristol. On the approved Parrot installer list and no dodgy reviews when googled. £235 all in including the BMW adapters..... Halfords were slightly cheaper, but not keen on a YTS p#ssing around with my electrics.

Just need a new IPOD now as my little girl has discovered 'Angry Birds' and I ain't seeing that for a while.

How much would you think for a simple speaker upgrade? 2 door speakers and 2 subs.

So you are looking at about a £90 installation fee there?

I totally agree about going for an approved Parrot installer rather than some spotty teenager from Halfrauds who would make mince meat of your dash!!

I'm looking for a speaker upgrade too mate...I'm rolling on the 6 Speaker BMW Business set up, although good as standard it just needs more umph!

Reggie - why do you want a new ipod?
just buy a usb stick for like $5 and it will plug straight in. (parrot has usb in) much cheaper and easier then ipod!

Does your car have an amp standard? you will definetly need an amplifier to power 2 subs and a few speakers. And it might take some work to modify those pockets behind the seats to accept the subs, so i would recommend profesional install.

hotride as a good point, i find itunes a pain, its much easier to just copy on to a memory stick

Just got the Mki9220 installed and very impressed with both the bluetooth (loads better then the built in one) and the quality of the ipod connector. Had the ipod/usb and aux-in cables fed into the glove box, the screen betwen the sat-nav and speedo, remote by the hazrad switch and dual microphone off the centre overhead light.

Only downside is a 1/4 inch scratch on my piano black fascia :(

I fitted my Parrot MKI9200 today, or at least mostly fitted it anyway - I'll finish it off tomorrow all being well.

Thanks for the great write-up Hotride. My install was similar to yours, but not quite the same. It seems I don't need the ignition switch box along with the other harness as you mentioned you did. I initially plugged it in (slightly different design to yours as well - instead of bullet connectors that join the box 'in-line', it now comes with a separate 24-pin extension lead that you plug in to the 24-pin connection on the main harness), and it didn't power up the Parrot at all. When I then removed it, it powered up fine, and powered down when I switched the ignition off. So I'll see if I can get a refund on that as I no longer have a use for it!

I also had issues with the Aux connection. I ordered the same lead as in your write-up, but the design only allows it to be plugged into the back of the head unit in the socket that handles the CD changer connections (which I guess works fine on yours, as you have the CD-changer?). In my case, this does nothing in the way of enabling Aux on the head unit. So a bit of fiddling and modifying of the cable later, and I now have it plugged into the other socket on the head unit, where it now enables the Aux (by means of adding the resistor and capacitors mentioned in the DIY Aux thread).

A bit more effort than I thought it would be, but I got there eventually. I just have the screen to mount properly now (rather than having it dangling from out of the panel beneath the head unit!) and then I'll think about fitting the iPod/USB/3.5mm cables a bit more neatly. I want to have the USB as a fitted socket in the glove box, the iPod cable connected to some sort of dock/holder (probably using the Scosche passPORT home dock adapter as a basis), and the 3.5mm jack routed to wherever I have my Pure Highway DAB unit (I'm thinking in the centre storage box at the moment).

Thanks again to you and everyone who has contributed to various bit of info I read and used today, including the Aux cable work and getting the centre vents out - I really felt like I knew how to get them out after I'd read up on it, and it only took me a couple of minutes in the end!

Cheers,
Andy

How is the screen and remote fixed? Just curious to know if it ever is removed will holes be on display? Does the MFSW work with parrot bluetooth etc?

Im in two minds whether to go parrot (better functionality)..or stick with OEM looks and go for the aux-in at the cost of less functionality... I've got a 2006 roady with built in bluetooth at the minute...with single CD player :( Any further advice? Apologies if im Hi-jacking

The screen and remote brackets are held on with 3M sticky pads, so they can be removed quite easily with some white spirit.

I haven't got the MFSW controls (yet!), so I can't really say for definite what it's like, but I think there is a harness that allows you to use them with the Parrot. That's extra though - not sure if it's from Parrot direct, or a third party supplier.

So what is the verdict on the sound quality from an ipod/iphone coming through the Parrot into the OEM speakers?

The link above demonstrated a decrease in quality and noise level when coming through the parrot opposed to the standard radio?

IMHO the quality is actually better. I'm now quite pleased with quality and put the speaker upgrade on hold for a little while.

The only two points to mention; if you can go down the route of integrating the MFSW controls then this would be better (assume it can be done) and the phobe only comes out of the footwell speakers.

So sound only comes out of the footwell speakers...so only 2 of the 6 speakers in the Business Stereo are utilised when playing your iPod or during a call?

So the quality is better but the volume is much lower due to not using the full speaker system...

Ipod comes out all all 6-speakers. The phone only comes out the front two.

The volume seems loads louder that the normal stereo. Have been comparing quality from CD and CD downloaded to IPod and through the Parrot. IMHO, better through the Parrot, but then again IMHO the base stereo isn't earth shattering.
