I pod connection.

Hello guys could you take a look at this and tell me is it really just a simple plug and play solution to connecting my i pod to my car.
http://store.apple.com/uk/product/H0692ZM/A?fnode=MTY1NDA2MQ&mco=MTg1OTg2NDI

If it helps or matters i have the factory sat nav with cd changer but dont fancy adding sockets or pulling it to pieces. Just looking for simple soulution that i can move from car to car. Thanks in advance .Steve

It is, but you will lose a decent amount of sound quality as it is one of the transmitter type ipod links.

as mentioned earlier,I wouldn't use a transmitter as the sound quality is rubbish, had an earlier version and after using it for a couple of days, changed my mind and bought proper ipod connectors.

assume you don't have the AUX input ??
which would put sound through the system just leave a solution required for charging

Thanks for input guys, sadly dont have the aux input which i think is located under the controls for heating etc,how easy a job is it to retrofinot really fussed about the charging aspect though. Again thanks for advice Steve

Simple enough. The hardest part is removing the centre vents above the radio unit. Have a search in the how to section for a guide.

Way too much for a FM transmitter. I bought an itrip off ebay for £5 incl postage. Works just the same. sound quality is not great with these transmitters. Got myself a DICE system now. Plugs into the wires for the CD changer and charges the ipod/phone

Some members I think have had some issues with the Dice system. Has yours been OK?

What level of control have you - can you view tracks, etc on your sat nav screen and access control via the MFSW?

Nope, its a pain in the arse. It does work but it does it in an annoying way, I think i need to set it up differently. At the moment, I need to set it playing, plug it in, then switch mode to radio before changing the mode to CD changer. It doesn't show the track name but maybe thats because I'm using an iphone not an ipod. I dont know really. Some guys on here have suggested I need to flip a couple switches on the unit but haven't got round to it yet.

I just installed a unit for my ipod and it works great. Did all the hook ups from the trunk. Here is a link of the unit. http://www.ipodcarpros.com/iPod%20Adapters/c1/p449/PA12-BMWdsp/product_info.html Also here is install video of where the 3 pin and 6 pin wires are in the trunk. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHIfb0CW7cE.

If you have nav I can throughly recommend the Intravee and alpine KCA420. You get full integration with the nav screen and an easy to use & reasonably intuitive interface for searching through artists, albums, playlists etc. Also, can be customised to make shortcuts available from the various buttons including the MFSW buttons.

Seems the best solution judging by comments on the Forum - just an awful lot of money though

i retro fiited the aux in cable today, very easy and did not remove the vents , i popped off the panel above the roof up/down buttons using a credit card , it came off easy(got the info from another thread on here how to do it) then just reached up to the left bottom off the stereo felt where it needed to go and clicked the plug in to it .took me all off 1 min in total, now just wondering where to secure the input . the sound is brilliant from my iphone
seeing you got the cd changer you might have to pop the vents out to as i think the aux goes in the same socket which you can put the pins in together not sure though as not an expert, but theres a guide how to do it on here, but as i said sound is brilliant ,,,for me anyway :D

edit ..... just read another thread and the guy has the cd changer and stated he thought the socket was used but was still empty

If it helps I have the cd changer and Aux fitted to Business H/U although it is a face lift 07 :|

I have sat nav and CD changer - i bought Parrot MKI9200 as it adds aux/ipod/usb connector to the car without losing use of the cd changer, charges iphone too. (it also adds bluetooth, not sure if you have it already tho)

it is completely plug and play so you don't need to cut any wires and could easily remove it if you wanted.

As for Quality - cant say enough about it (seems better then OEM), and you can see album info/track name/ navigate any amount of playlists.

i looked at dice/intravee but they didnt seem to have the options/ control i wanted

I would like to fit the aux socket to my 2006 Z4, is it a part from BMW or do you have to go aftermarket? Can anyone guide me as to where I would connect it on the back of the stereo?

Thanks, Paul

just to highjack this thread - i have a dension and over the past few months has issues with volume, in short its gone quite and no Dension fixes have worked so im going to go the AUX method and charge the iphone via the Dension cable

But can the AUX wire be fitted to a SaNav system with DSP and Bluetooth?

Thanks as always

I think the aux cable uses the same plug as the cd changer, if you don't have the cd changer you should be right to fit it straight in iirc
