A mate recently went on a speed awareness course.. one of the written questions was what is the speed limit on a dual carriage way..60 apparently 8)

Googled it because if not believing...... Speed limit on dual carriage way is 70 MPH.
National speed limit is 60mph and 70mph on dual carriageways

As for "Smart" motorways, welcome to Thames Valley.
It took over 3 years to turn a bit of the M3 into one, and now they are doing the same to a stretch of the M4 just to make sure our nearest Motorways are no longer fit for purpose! I use dual-carriageway A roads whenever I can because it's quicker, and there aren't any reduced limits or cameras.
