How does a 435i turn into a 640d?

Been looking forward to seeing a 4 series in flesh so went into dealership to ask about demo dates and finance deals. Went to ask about a 435i MSport and came out with a very very very tempting offer on a pre-reg (*amend* apparently I will be the first owner as it hasn't been registered yet so will be 63 plate for a Dec12 built car, cool) 640d MSport in recession white.

With the current deals it's working out cheaper than the 4 believe it or not for a £70k car vs a £45k.

Am I mad to even think about it? It is very tempting, even took one out and the engine is amazing! Needing to use the car as a daily so changing to something with greater comfort is prompting the ideas at the moment.

Just think of the neighbours. They'll have to put up with a massive diesel clearing its lungs like a fleet of French tractors until it warms up while you sit in isolated splendour.

Personally I'd say sod the neighbours and as long as you've got the extra foot required to park it and don't need the back seats (because they're smaller than my 330Ci) then go for it. They are economical GT superstars.

I wish I had the space for one.

So I'm looking for an Abarth 500c now...

Just on an aesthetic numerical basis,i find the figures 435 much more appealing than 640,i can't explain it and now i've written it i still don't understand it

the 640d looks like a very competent car...... but it comes down to what you want regardless of cost really

TBH if you take one out for a test drive apart from the diesel fuel gauge and 4.5k revometer you will mistaken it for a 640i. The noise is serene and quiet until you put it in sport mode and boot it over 2.5k, the speed and engine note is epic. All that for a car capable of doing 50+ mpg. No tractor noise at all. Don't know how they did that. Genius.

I think I'm talking myself into one.

Out of curiosity, what was the deal and which dealership?
Hi Maniac, it was actually your comment on the 135I thread that got me thinking about luxurious interior space with the extended leather etc.

So as I said in one of my threads I was looking at a 435i and never thought a 6 would come into play at all. Until yesterday.

I am going to the dealership today and will let you know the details. If I don't get the right deal I'll give you all the details as the price might suit you better.

Modern diesels are a far cry from their old tractor grandparents.

The 4 series will soon look like a rep mobile... the 6 series will remain the executive classic & in that form would be, if I were in your shoes, a no brainer decision.

Forget the 'discount', i know they're still making a profit so after all the smiles & fancy talk, at he very end drop them another 5k asking how close to this they'd be prepared to go to seal the deal NOW

Good luck

I called in at the dealer and the coupe is too small, no one but amputees can get in the back so for me it would be the gran coupe. Going back next weekend to see what the figures might look like.

Hello, fresh back from the dealership and guess what a little bit more haggling and I am an owner of a new 640d MSport. :D :D :D

The deal I got for a pre-built not even registered MY2013 Msport, Alpine White, Soft Closing Doors and Professional Loudspeakers works out better than a fully specced up 435i Msport with Adaptive suspension and Harmon Kardon speakers! :o

I was told that there are quite a few MY2013 build cars in the network that were forced on dealerships. Each having between 4-6 of them. So fully paid for and now the dealerships are wanting that money back. So when you see the contribution on the configurator (£13k or so), well you can do much much better than that. There are cars with different specs so as long as you don't mind pre-built cars then keep specs minimal with a standard colour (*cough* recession white or charcoal black) then you are on for a winner.

My dealer was Williams Rochdale and the very nice chap who convinced me I could be in a 640d by the end of the week is called Adrian. And even with United losing to Liverpool my smile has not dropped! If anyone is interested the other car offered is the same but with DAB (guessing late 2013 build) instead of the Professional Loudspeakers, it's Charcoal Black with Dakota Cream Leather. I won't disclose figures as that would be unfair on Adrian for the mega deal I did get but if you are willing to negotiate then you could get a 640d too.

Don't get me wrong I am quite sad to see the Zed go so soon but circumstances have changed for me. However, I am a forum member for life so will be here as always but who knows the next car might be next Zed! :)

you should be more loyal to us than the dealer.... when we were all buying our zeds last year, we all disclosed our figures openly and it worked out for all of us and im sure the dealers didnt lose out as they never do

I wouldn't hesitate at all but conversely they told me they look at this forum for the above so they can use it as the ultimate offer. So it would hurt others who may get better offers.

Well done with the deal on the new car.

As I said the 6 series Coupe is gorgeous and in M Sport guise too :driving: .

Looking forward to the pics, enjoy.
