How does a 435i turn into a 640d?

I still can't shake the whole at year 3/4 paying out another 28/20K though... or having nothing and swapping to yet another car and continue paying out...

Plus I really need to focus on paying the mortgage off. I'm 43 now, I want to retire at 50/55 and pushing the money I'd spend on the 640D into my mortgage means I'll have it paid off in 9 years and own my house too.

Does this mean you'd need to keep the Z for 9 more years though?

No it probably means keeping the Z until circumstances dictate a 'need' rather than 'desire' to change. At which point TBH, I'd probably just get a golf and save myself a whole heap of cash and worry. That's the thing of this thread really... the OP wants his change due to circumstances. I considered it simply because it would give me a bit more practicality. If I'm precious over my Z, god knows how I'd be over a 73K car! At the window with every tiny noise outside probably. I've enough stress at work. No I think I should look back on my prior car, the e85, which I loved but got rid of because the ride was bad. I should have just spent a few grand changing tyres and suspension. Instead, I went and spent a lot of money on an e89. So, I may turn my attention and cash towards some non run flats to ease up on the crashy ride on poor roads, and keeping the Z in good nick while throwing what cash I can into paying off the house. Otherwise I'm going to turn 50 still paying out for a car or a house and not being able to relax and retire which frankly, if I could do it now, I bloody well would... This working lark is overrated. I'll just take up gardening as a hobby to keep me busy ;)

Indeed. OP, we know its pi$$ing it down, but we still think...

:worthless:

5 and a half hours to go. Williams will be like the Geneva motorshow and the unveiling of the 6 the first time round. I have 5gb free on my phone. Won't be after 6 tonight, hehehe. :D :D :D

Needs and desires. Balls to both.

Lifes too short have what you want while you can, you dont know whats round the corner.

Thats why I bought mine.

Too true, which is why I bought the Z :) Now my goals are an easier life!

I always try and do everything in moderation and try to have everything (within reason) that you want even if that means waiting a while. Just as everyone has a story like this - short version. Chap at work, small office six people. Ill six months ago all looking good afterwards, then not so well again died a young man this week. Now I am thinking live for today rather than moderation!

My situ is that I am getting divorced, have no need to buy a new place, I have a lovely E89 but the money is burning a hole in my pocket.....don't have any kids or dependants, so I don't feel like I need to buy somewhere to pay off and leave to someone, sooooo temped but I am. Enjoying not paying any money out and owning my car without £500 coming out of my account each month on a lease

Lucky git

TBH I can't knock my wife. She's put up with my addiction for years as well as bringing 3 gorgeous boys up

Maniac has a point though about working your butt off and planning to retire/pay the mortgage off.
Nice holidays, cars, restaurants and you still end up in debt

OP get those photos up :driving:

Dealer just called, wants me to go visit and take a look.. might do ;) Mentioned John is collecting his car any moment ... so again, OP ... PICTURES!!! lol

biggiz. I consider I have a nice car now, so part of what I risked buying it is still paying off. This is all about balance and while its very well taking the 'get what you want' line, if I do manage to still be alive when I retire I intend to have 0 debt and enjoy every penny to the max! But in the meantime, I've still had a pretty good time without going mad and ruining my future.

It's called being complaiciant and we all do become that way. But sometimes we can all look back and realise the good we have already in our loves and to be grateful.

I look at cars all the time and then sometimes I see my E89 and I think how lucky I am :)

OP, I'd be interested to know what your insurance quotes have come out at. I've just checked before I go and view the car (which I won't be doing now). It's TWICE what I pay for the 35i... holy crap on a pancake. As the car is no quicker than mine, it has to be down to its value. Vehicle insurance in Manchester is mental.

With insurance once you have a car over £50K the value becomes an issue. Some insurers won't quote because they don't do business in that sector. Most will require a tracker.

It means if you buy a new 640d the initial insurance premiums will be high and should drop once the car's value drops.

My 6GC is costing about double what our Z would cost. Plugging in the numbers for a quote based on a used car at under £50K were a lot more reasonable.

One other thing to watch is that one or two insurers don't make it that clear that you need a tracker to cover theft - it's stated but not obviously - whereas others (eg. Direct Line and other UK Inusrance PLC siblings) will usually require you give tracker details so it's in your face. Read carefully.

Would you be happy to put an £18,000 deposit on this car, pay even more into it over three years and then hand it back to have nothing to show for it?

The deposit is irrelevant. It's what it costs to own. 18K + £300/pm over 3 years is just under £29K. So £800/month.

Is the 640d worth that? That's a personal thing. Another way to look at it is that if you are willing to cough £800/month on a car what other options are there?

Maniac, (tbh I should know your name by now as you were the 1st person to rely to my 1st post), but I'm crap at remembering names
Also l love Manchester after spending a lot of time there in the late 90's.

You've touched a nerve with your outlook on life. It's ok living for the moment but a better outlook would be to plan for the future. Oh how our taxes would be lower if everyone thought this way

I really need to upload an 'introduction' so that everyone knows who I am. But I feel a little guilty because I pay next to nothing 'literally' for my cars as I work for BMW

Apologies for the thread hijack OP :headbang:

Its Gary :) As for working for BMW, you've become my new best friend.

You should both live for the moment, but have limits to ensure your future is safe.

+1 I've just actually listened to my wife and rejected an M5 Comp Edition and I'd only pay £45k for it!

I've always wanted an M3 after driving lots vof E46's in Germany. I sometimes feel like a druggy with regards to my car addition

Silly money but I earn 'silly money'. What's happening to the world?

Nah this is not good enough.......
