Smoking.. :tumbleweed: :tumbleweed:
Indeed, that was smoking hot and smelling awfull, even after some days

Burnt circuit boards never smell good…had an aircraft transponder ‘blow up’ inside its metal box…crew poohed themselves and did an emergency landing with the smell n smoke..when we opened up the box there was a very bad burn mark and a disrupted power IC…

:o

In my case it was more current than expected when this elder, powerful motor of an E85 reached it's physical limitation.
All former tests led to about 10 amps without any damage of the circuit board.

As of today, I've completed the next concentrator box (BlueBox K2) for another couple of BMW convertibles:
  • F33 (4series)
    F83 (4series M)
    F91(M8)
    G14(8series]

In these days I got the chance to take a roof EKG from a rather new BMW M8 convertible (F91).

It had no faults, but I was able to take a reference chart of all roof and trunk functions.

This is, once again, a very impressive piece of technology, which will run into spooky faults in it's age of 10-15 years. 8)
Even the hydraulic trunk lid lift is managed by the hydraulic pump of the roof!

24 different signals of sensors as well as actors got plottet into a single EKG.

Is this available for someone like ME? I replaced my entire roof because they told me it was a bad microsensor and they couldn't just fix that!
Obviously, they didn't have a diagnostic tool like this!!
I was lucky enough to find a replacement roof on ebay for a few hundred dollars (even the right color)..
I replaced the Hydraulic pump myself (also with a used one).. after all this, occasionally I still get the red blinking light on the switch, an error message on the screen says the top is not locked, and my windows and trunk won't open - plus that very annoying loud error beep as I drive!!
Then suddenly, that all stops!
I'm afraid to put my top down since it was replaced last year!! I'm afraid it'll get stuck half way down!!
Please help me!!

No. As initially written, we are talking about a self developed package of hardware tools, which can be combined in different setups to support each BMW convertible from Z8 up to i8 Roadster

This thread is not intended to discuss individual support cases. These should be placed under "E89 Problems"!

People are happy to buy a 10-40k car, but not buy a 100 obd reader.
Should be a sticky...."Buy obd BMW specific reader, read codes, tell us the codes."

Hi, first time posting on here and really need some help as after searching hundreds of articles I cannot find the answer to my problem. I have encountered a problem with my e89 roof where the roof extends into its stacked position and the boot lid begins to open as normal but, before the boot lid has risen 6 inches the roof begins to retract clashing with the boot lid.
Any ideas on fix ? I’m lead to believe it could be a hall sensor issue however, I’m puzzled how to access the hall sensors on the boot hinge / ram as I cannot fully open to provide access

The Y4 diagnostic system got finished in between. But in fact it's for a completely different world.

An additional concentrator K7 has been finished and tested:
Y4 K7: VOLVO C70-II with a retractable hardtop

Y4 CRM cable adapter
Reworked/extended to my needs with 2x 78 pin plugs for signal export

Y4 Concentrator K7
To collect all signals of the CRM and to provide 4 different signal configurations for the 24 AD converters, which result in 4 different roof EKG charts.

There is a mods4cars roof module integrated to always support roof opening/closing by key while having my system attached to the car.

This roof is "a bit" more complex than the one in our Z4 E89: 11 hydraulic rams instead of 6

Have a look at it's kinematik:

Written this 2 years ago, I got in contact with a M8 owner whose trunk lift didn't work anymore.
Attaching my Y3 Diagnostic System led to a malfunction of the hallsensor connected on top of this special trunk lift hydraulic ram. As it's a special kind of sensor, it's not available as spare part!

You have to buy a "complete set of hydraulic ram with sensor" that costs more than 1.400€ !
