But are the profiteering rules only for selling back to the forum?

Yes, but doing what he did isn’t playing fair. Items are sold on the forum cheaper usually as the seller would like an forum member to benefit, not flog straight on for a profit.

Yep I agree, I was just wondering is all.

To be fair the rules are ambiguous, I didn’t think about this scenario when I wrote them. I will update the rules to hopefully deal with this issue going forward.

I'd argue that this statement "the seller would like an forum member to benefit" is idealistic at best. More likely the seller just wants an easy sale, not to help 'contribute to the community :D ' but I'm always on the cynical side of things it must be said.
Anyway, it's all a bit of a moot point isn't it? What's the action that can be taken here? Ban him? Not hard to start another account.

I'm guessing Web Development may not be your forte, but It's not as straight forward as simply making another account -- there are ways and means of detecting someone making multiple accounts and instant banning them etc etc. IP Address, email address, sessions, browser ids etc etc - So a ban is a viable option

Well I’ve met Zoomer and I’m 100% convinced he would have a fair price in mind but only for the forum, he’s the kind to want to help the place rather than squeeze every ounce of coin out of the job, he’s a top bloke.

If you don’t have any forum interest in mind when selling it’s a pretty poor show imho. We can all play hardball if need be.

you're quite right there! But from my limited knowledge an account set up through a vpn would circumnavigate those things surely? If you could be bothered

VPN's don't always anonymise you as much as one would hope! It would ultimately boil down to whoever has the most perseverance though really. For example sake, you could make a new email account, and make a new account here via a VPN - but then you would have to ideally use that same VPN every single time. One mistake, one time forgetting and *boom* there's a connection made to a previously banned account. VPN's, by common design, rarely give you the same IP and same country once you have ended and then re-established a connection

I don't know how spectre has his DB etc all setup - but there's ways to catch that kinda thing

To be honest John I sold them as I’d upgraded to full leather seats. I basically sold the seats for what they owed me to sell quick and also to someone who wanted the seats. There were 2 other guys who were in France and Greece who wanted them , but I was honest with them and said I didn’t want the hassle of shipping them. Mr Z popped up and after a little negotiation paid full price. I thought he wanted them for his car so both parties were happy.

It’s a pity that he had done this as it would have been nice for someone who wanted them to fit to there car to have got them but at the time he was next in line. Perhaps I undersold them but manual half leather heated seats aren’t worth as much as full leather.
Still got the M John?

Sounds like the fairest thing to do in this situation is learn from it and update as required

On the subject of not profiteering, how do people get away with selling top down side covers at insane prices? Surely profit is profit, regardless of when purchased/sold?

I think that there the forum spirit and the moderators judgement comes into play.
Just as for instance say someone bought a z3m on the forum in 2010, and now, 10 years later they've become a wanted rarity and market value has skyrocketed. It's hardly realistic to demand the same price as for what it sold 10 years ago.

But here we're talking about less than a fortnight

Why? You just need a different IP and email.
So VPN or an anonymous proxy will do (as long as you use a non blacklisted one anyway)

I guess the term "profiteering" in this instance on the forum is primarily regarding those who buy and sell with little to no turn around time specifically to make profit. That's a different ball game when compared to buying a loved car, owning it for 10 years and then selling it for the going market rate. I would say that's acceptable, after-all, no sells a house one their deathbed for the £25,000 they probably paid for it in 1970 whe it could be worth a million now!

If logged in sessions, along with IP used to login are kept, as well as the original IP at sign up, it would be super easy to link a banned account with a new account. If they used a VPN with forever changing IPs it would soon become apparent something was up when at 9:30 am they signed in from country a and then an hour later signed in from country b despite there being an 8 hour flight between the 2 lol. It would be obvious they were using a VPN/Proxy and coupled with other information that can be stored (and often is, but perhaps not here on this forum) it'd be fairly easy to still link accounts

I have Zoomer yes, it’s just been detailed at Beedubs place, not sure if I’ll be able to keep it or not yet, I’ve got a Boxster arriving in July, be a shame to sell but it might have to go.

Hope all is well with you two.

We could all make offers of the original selling price (or click buy it now) and then change our minds - with reasons like "I thought they were electric"; "I though they were a different colour"; "I thought they were half leather, but these look about 1/3rd leather"

Reminds me that I've got to get mine out of the loft to photograph and put up for sale :headbang:
