There is a causeway onto Lindisfarne and it gets covered fairly quickly, the authorities have erected signs which read:-

WHEN THE WATER REACHES HERE -DO NOT PROCEED.

Yet still the RNLI etc are called to ferry people from the elevated platform!
It doesn't happen once in a blue moon either!

Surely rescuing them defeats the whole purpose of natural selection.

Needs a second notice - 'If you do choose to proceed the RNLI have the right to take pot-shots at you on the elevated platform.'

Scarey times !

There will still be those who think it can’t happen to them.

My jab is due ( they say) mid Feb but I will still keep my head down :-

A. Because I won’t have the max immunity
B. I could be a spreader.

You could still be a spreader once you have had the jab.

Not sure why.. because they got on social media and made a fuss? Aren't we supposed to not drive to places like that.. we live about 4 miles from a country park and we dont drive up there as we interpret the rules as we are not supposed to. Confused :(

You can't really think those 2 girls should have been treat like that do you ?
If that was my wife & daughter ( who do drive a couple of miles each to meet at a local park for walks ) id be livid , its pure bullying tactics on the part of the police , completely over zealous idiots in uniform who aren't even interpreting the law correctly .
As far as i'm aware there is no number to what constitutes "acceptable distance" & all those who said at the outset that this situation would be used by the government to remove human rights unfortunately appears to be coming true .

"Guidance issued by the Cabinet Office states that people can leave their homes for exercise but should not travel outside their "local area".

However, the actual legislation does not specify a maximum distance that people are allowed to travel for exercise.

Both the guidance and legislation state people can exercise with one other person, as Jessica Allen and Eliza Moore did.

Human rights barrister Adam Wagner said: "There is no law against travelling to exercise. The guidance is not legally binding and the police have no power to enforce it unless it is reflected in the lockdown regulations which in this case it is not."

Derbyshire Police said: "It is up to each individual officer on a case-by-case basis to decide what is reasonable as the legislation does not proscribe a distance."

& even more alarming if actually true

"Under the rules in England, you must not leave or be outside of your home except where you have a 'reasonable excuse'. This will be put in law.

The police can take action against you if you leave home without a 'reasonable excuse', and issue you with a fine (Fixed Penalty Notice).

You can be given a Fixed Penalty Notice of £200 for the first offence, doubling for further offences up to a maximum of £6,400. "

so technically i could be fined for washing my car on my own driveway but being in construction i can still go to work ? utterly nuts

No Andy I don't, that wasn't quite my point..it was more the fact this thread was about people driving out for walks which we've not been doing as much as we'd like too whereas others think its ok and I'm confused by which.

In regards to the police treatment of the ladies in question I have no idea how true or how much is exaggerated/blown up on social media, if it is how they say of course it is way too heavy handed and I would also be fuming..as a young lad in Birkenhead I've been on the end of heavy handed police treatment more than once for doing sod all so I can assure you I'm no fan but what i was trying to convey was what is acceptable /unacceptable in terms of exercise..as far as I remember its supposed to start and end at your front door with no travelling involved and anything else could result in a fine

Driving 4 or 5 miles for exercise is just about acceptable, the way the police acted (if true) is in no way acceptable, in Wales where we have had people drive from London / MiltonKeynes etc. to Brecon for exercise the police are trying to educate people and ask them to leave first and issuing fines as a last resort.

I am lucky and live in a rural area with three house and miles of walks within 50 yards of my drive, we are not all that lucky, due to the recent rain I went to a local park (tarmac paths) around 2 miles away and there were hundreds walking around with no real social distancing so I left.

What is safer driving a few miles to walk in isolation or walking at a local park where there are 500 people, probably stopping and talking with little social distancing, if I lived in a city I know what I thinks better and what I would do.

Guidance is blury and when it is it will be interepereted differently by folks, Gov't should have stipulated "excercise is allowed locally outside the home but should not include driving to a location" simples. Whats ithe interpretation of local 1 mile, 2, 3? What are the police supposed to do, can't bame them and its easy to start saying police state, bullying etc but hasn't all of this been passed as law now?.

I would just question the need to have to drive out anywhere to get excercise etc, you can do that within a mile of home, just common sense lacking in people. The Government are saying stay at home, pretty crystal clear to me and people still take the pi$$ and then blame police for bullying etc :fightwall:

Tim.

If true it’s very heavy handed, ridiculous, same as the drone footage last year.

However, the thread is about the recent snow, not the lockdown. That’s twice it’s been de-railed by media clips that have nothing to do with the snow, I don’t know if either were posted to try to incite an argument, they won’t, sorry for that.

As you were.

Had to laugh when the Welsh police stopped 850 cars the other weekend who were visiting Pen y Fan and Brecons. 85 turned back and 8 prosecuted - including a van load from London who wanted to see snow as they had never seen it before.
Bit like all the off road cyclists descending on the Forest of Dean - car parks shut to deter visitors so just parked anywhere and everywhere.
Or on the beaches last spring.
Rules are for everyone else, not me!

I don’t think that is the case John. It just the way the thread developed this being the lounge. I think everyone ( mean posters on this forum) deserves some slack with all that is happening at the moment.
