Head banging frustration...

This from Derbyshire constabulary this afternoon....you can’t blame them....

“This is being typed from our office while most of the team is out in the few available vehicles.
It’s been snowing most of the afternoon, just as forecast.

It’s the middle of winter, Bleaklow and Kinder are the highest points in Derbyshire.

We are in the throes of a pandemic placing restrictions on all our recreational activities.

Upwards of 200 cars were parked on Snake Pass summit early this afternoon, busier than a summer bank holiday, but with the main difference being the large white things dropping out of the sky. Presumably the occupiers of these vehicles were out on the moors. It seems many don’t have the common sense to check the forecast, dress themselves suitably, have a capable vehicle or driving skills, never mind the fact perhaps they shouldn’t have been stretching the advice given by the govt’ so as not to overburden our NHS.

Never mind though, just ring the police and expect them to come along with their magical snowmobiles. Of course, with our superpowers we can simultaneously deal with winter situations, in the Goyt valley, Mam Nick, Curbar gap and others. And we’re covid proof didn’t you know?

Joking aside please don’t be stupid, it shouldn’t need more of an explanation than that.

Hopefully the evening won’t deteriorate into a mass of emergencies. We'll deal with what we can, but our underpants aren’t in the outside and we can only knock so much common sense back into society”.

They sound really pissed off.... :headbang: :headbang:

Why do so called intelligent people think they know better than advice given by the pros :headbang: shame you cant leave them there for a night in the cold.

I think the folk who drive 50 miles to walk a peak seem to find it much easier to justify their excursion but overlook the risks to others if they were to need help. Whatever mistakes may have been made by experts /politicians you can't save some people from themselves!!

I do get the need to get out of the house etc, I really do, I live here so I’m very lucky but this post is accurate, there is one hell of a burden put on others in this already horrendous situation, we don’t have large resources here, the Edale mountain rescue is all voluntary staffed and funded like the coast guard, and honestly plod is put upon to levels very very uncalled for. :(

I don't know why people refer to common sense - it seems to be getting rarer all the time!

I agree with everything you have written John. Having spent over 40 years in teaching I discovered very early on that one of the few things you cannot teach is ‘common sense’. A child with no common sense will not mature into a responsible adult. What has surprised me though is just how many of them have developed into such selfish, thoughtless idiots. I put my hands up and admit I am a failure.

God forbid anyone actually go out and enjoy the countryside nowadays. Lock them up and throw away the key, grrrrr 8)

I'm sure most of them were fine. You always get the odd plonker wherever you are.

 Spoken by a true city man..... :poke:

You wouldn’t believe how quickly the weather changes especially up on Snake Pass Ben, if it starts snowing and you’re 30 minutes away from your car you’re in the soup, couple this with the lack of ability folk have to drive in snow anymore. Go to the country by all means, just stay away from the high areas is all that’s being asked, it only takes one or two to block a road and you’ve got gridlock, which happened a few weeks ago near my workshop, road was shut for 3 hours due to two cars having a knock in the snow.

I think that this proves the cops frustration to be correct.

Unfortunately, plod doesn't garner too much respect from the public these days. A self inflicted wound of course mostly attributed to PC bollox. And no, he wasn't a character in "Heartbeat".

In the UK today we have a large slice of the population who have no respect for themselves or anybody else and this is handed down to their offspring.Whats the answer is anybody’s guess.

True, but I don't see what your comment has to do with mine about the police.

You’re probably right Steve. That’s why I finished up as a headteacher and OFSTED inspector because I was no good as a teacher. :!:

How do you know they drove 50 miles? Maybe they were locals.

Is this the same chief constable who tried shaming dogwalkers early into lockdown by posting drone footage of them " not " committing any offence
