It will probably be caught on the cams on the dust-cart too. I was taking my mini-bus test a few weeks ago with a chap who works for the council. Whilst chatting he mentioned that all the local bin lorries now have cameras all round & the amount of claims against the council has gone down drastically. Obviously doesn't stop the bin-men driving like idiots though :xCavey1638 said:Oh they stopped alright .... dash cam recorded it .... plus the 2 other CCtv cameras that cover our car park.... Mr bin lorry driver who didn't bother to use his mirrors or reversing cameras!

I didn't say that it would be recorded as a "write off". I said it would be recorded as a Cat D and WILL be subject to HPI inclusion as an insurance claim has been made for accident damage. And for the record, I certainly do understand how insurance works!ben g said:Mark555 said:And the worse thing, it's now recorded as Cat D! :x
You obviously don't understand insurance 'write off's'. This clearly isn't going to be written off, so it won't be categorised at all.

Op, sorry to hear of this. Looks like you had a lucky escape with it only needing a door replacement!

Midhurstman said:Surely it cannot be correct that it is classed as a cat D? Not knowing the precise explanation I googled the RAC definition which says (leaving out the more serious cat's A, B and C) it is a cat d write off due to all costs (hire car, damages etc) coming to a total that makes it uneconomical to the insurers to repair. The RAC categorically states that it is a 'write off' by the insurers to be classed as a cat D, not just a repair. I do not claim to have any knowledge on this subject but cannot believe that every car in the UK that has been in an accident and subsequently repaired at insurers cost are all Cat D's, half of the vehicles for sale would have to be listed as cat D! I stand to be educated on this and will be interested in subsequent postings from others more informed on the subject.
It's disastrous enough already for Cavey 1638, the prospect of it also being Cat D is too much to bear, I sincerely hope it isn't.
