Gutted!

If a vehicle is stolen and then recovered, even without ANY damage, it is recorded on HPI. If a vehicle is subject to accident damage and is subject to a corresponding insurance claim, then it IS recorded. Otherwise, what is the point of operating a HPI checking system and expecting the public to pay for a service that doesn't operate correctly and fairly? The damage to the vehicle is well over £1000 and even more if a BMW dealership rectifies it. You my friend are talking crap. Why do you think that so many people who have minor bumps and scrapes choose to settle at the roadside and not involve insurance companies? It's because, even if you are NOT at fault, it is logged that you have been involved in an accident, you are required by insurance law to disclose that fact, and your premium WILL rise upon renewal. Think about it; would you prefer prior knowledge that a vehicle has had side impact damage and been subject to an insurance claim before you make an informed decision of whether to purchase? I certainly would! You get your YOUR to bed!!!!

Oh my God. You aren't listening to us.

If a vehicle is damaged and not declared a total loss, it will be repaired and go back on the road with no log on the hpi whatsoever.

I have experience as I had a rather large accident in a 62 plate focus when a 62 plate evoque pulled out on me. Both cars were less than 9 months old at the time. Both cars were repaired and put back on the road with nothing on any HPI.

This is standard procedure. Please listen to people who know what they're talking about.

For whatever reason, you're talking about increased insurance premiums, which have absolutely nothing to do with a hpi check. Stop getting confused. You can clearly see you're wrong about this as it's not just me telling you that you're WRONG!

Stolen recovered vehicles are a completely different ball game.

Interesting thought on this one. My insurance premium renewal has come through from Adrian Flux (Broker). Last year I paid £190 fully comp for me and the wife with business use. My renewal has been quoted at £290. The underwriters are Equity Red Star. I queried the hike of nearly £100 pounds since last year. I was told that as the 'claim was still open' and not formally settled they had increased the premium. This was despite telling my insurance I was informing them for information only and NOT making any claim as it was a NON fault issue. I have used Albany Assistance who deal direct with the third partys insurance (Axa Corporate). After numerous phone calls to both Adrian Flux & Equity Red Star they have rectified the issue and shown it as Non Fault and No Claims to be honoured. The new premium is £216.

Insurance companies do take the proverbial if allowed!

The level of misinformation on this thread is outstanding.

If the car is repaired under the insurance it will not be recorded under a HPI report.... Recently a car on here was recorded as a write off... And i ran a HPi report on it and it came back clear... So there is no guarantee that writes off even get recorded.

The owner will be flagged as making a claim (or non fault claim) in this instance. And all insurance companies ask the question "any claims REGARDLESS OF FAULT, in the last X years"

Their theory is of you are involved in an accident even if no fault you are more likely to have another... Its BS.

Do sadly OP your insurance will be more expensive going forward... But least your car will be as good as new...and not recorded as having any damage!

And the worse thing, it's now recorded as Cat D! :x

You obviously don't understand insurance 'write off's'. This clearly isn't going to be written off, so it won't be categorised at all.

Google is your friend.

Op, sorry to hear of this. Looks like you had a lucky escape with it only needing a door replacement!
I didn't say that it would be recorded as a "write off". I said it would be recorded as a Cat D and WILL be subject to HPI inclusion as an insurance claim has been made for accident damage. And for the record, I certainly do understand how insurance works!

Sorry but I disagree, I did major damage to my previous daily drive when it was 6 months old; every panel on the passenger side needed repairing or replacing, including a new front passenger door, the safety cell needed straightening and a full respray. I was told afterwards that it was a marginal call on writing it off but there was no record of the repair on the HPI after the insurance company paid for the repairs and it had no impact on the trade in value I got for it.

I'm pretty sure 'categories' are only applied to written off cars, not ones that insurance companies actually have repaired (certainly my experience bears this out)

Oh - and I actually managed to pay less for the following year's insurance by switching companies (and yes I did declare the 'at fault' accident

The insurance assessor will decide if the car is economically repairable , if it is the car will be repaired and returned to you and not recorded as cat d , if it's not economically repairable you will be paid out the value of the car then the car is catogerised as appropriate , probably d judging by the pics .
Cat d is a total loss , not a car repaired by the insurance company .

The level of miss information in this thread is worrying, but what is really disturbing is how one guy posts a complete load of crap, then rather than accept he was wrong, he goes on a rather sanctimonious rant talking even more crap trying to back it up and further confusing others.
Glad we got it sorted and hes piped down in the end as this is how a lot of sh!te on the internet that people take as fact gets started.

OP are you sure you want Synters fixing the car? A car of this age is most likely to be written off using a main agent bodyshop due to their ridiculously high labour rates and parts mark up. Surely using an good independent who no doubt will do just as good a job would make more sense and save the vehicle from being declared a total loss (CAT D). Unless of course you do actually want it writing off that!

Hi All

Spoke to the body shop this morning. New door has been painted. Needs blending in to panels. Probably next Tuesday. So clearly not written off which would have been a nightmare.
