Hi All,

Just got the car back a week ago from the audio installers then some *wat reversed in to my car. So now she's gone to Sytners in Sheffield for some serious love to get it back to how she should look. Luckily they did not touch the roof or the sill area.

Regards

Cavey

Oh they stopped alright .... dash cam recorded it .... plus the 2 other CCtv cameras that cover our car park.... Mr bin lorry driver who didn't bother to use his mirrors or reversing cameras!

Not another one, Christ !
There appears to be a spate of Z bashing going on, at least you can claim against the twat.

And the worse thing, it's now recorded as Cat D! :x

You obviously don't understand insurance 'write off's'. This clearly isn't going to be written off, so it won't be categorised at all.

Google is your friend.

Op, sorry to hear of this. Looks like you had a lucky escape with it only needing a door replacement!

I'd make sure you keep that photo, for whenever you come to sell it.
A dented single panel looks far less horrific that the words "CAT D" without an explanation.

I would be put off buying a CAT car, but if I could see exactly how minor the damage was I'd reconsider, if everything else ticked my boxes.

It will probably be caught on the cams on the dust-cart too. I was taking my mini-bus test a few weeks ago with a chap who works for the council. Whilst chatting he mentioned that all the local bin lorries now have cameras all round & the amount of claims against the council has gone down drastically. Obviously doesn't stop the bin-men driving like idiots though :x
hope you are back on the road soon.

I didn't say that it would be recorded as a "write off". I said it would be recorded as a Cat D and WILL be subject to HPI inclusion as an insurance claim has been made for accident damage. And for the record, I certainly do understand how insurance works!

Surely it cannot be correct that it is classed as a cat D? Not knowing the precise explanation I googled the RAC definition which says (leaving out the more serious cat's A, B and C) it is a cat d write off due to all costs (hire car, damages etc) coming to a total that makes it uneconomical to the insurers to repair. The RAC categorically states that it is a 'write off' by the insurers to be classed as a cat D, not just a repair. I do not claim to have any knowledge on this subject but cannot believe that every car in the UK that has been in an accident and subsequently repaired at insurers cost are all Cat D's, half of the vehicles for sale would have to be listed as cat D! I stand to be educated on this and will be interested in subsequent postings from others more informed on the subject.

It's disastrous enough already for Cavey 1638, the prospect of it also being Cat D is too much to bear, I sincerely hope it isn't.

So it's away at the local BMW dealer being sorted. Assuming is not classed as an 'un-economical' repair then it will not be recorded as Cat D.

Did I miss the bit where it's been advised its been classed as a 'write off' due to cost? Or a write off at all?

Correct, if your car is damaged and then repaired by the insurance company then it is NOT recorded.

Only 'Write Offs' are and they are then categorised.

Thanks all for your replies. I am sure she will be back soon. Have to admit the lorry driver nearly got buried in his own truck..... calmed down now.!!!

You obviously don't as you're talking absolute garbage!

A vehicle will only be categorised if it's an insurance write off or total loss.

If the car is repairable, it will be repaired with no markers on any HPI checks.

Please go back to bed, for everyones sake
