Yep - you can see the attraction despite me loving my 3.0si so much . . . . it looks even better in the 'flesh'
For those, like you Pastry, that are new forumites - this ///M was sammyz's and he's had it effectively from new (BMW group 1st owners). He's had it 9 years and cared for it wonderfully. Kept off road over the winter months and (relatively) low miles 49K. Respected member of the Forum, known by many and a friend of ours from when we joined and through him organising and leading the runs (with Craig3.2) at the Nationals. Steph and I have enjoyed many runs with sammyz and his ///M, including Scotland, Wales and the Borders as well as the National's. He has attended our runs based in Newcastle and been on our Northumberland Castles and Coast tours. We've loved this ///M since we first saw it - I guess you can call it a 'known' ///M  . It's certainly one of the most recognised and known ///M's (along with one or two others) on the forum.
Not certain Steph and I will keep it quite as sammyz has but we'll do our best - we shall see . . . . .
It is a special car without doubt and I hope to have one someday. I drove a new one once back in 2007. My brother worked for BMW (still does) and I went to see a Z3MR and took the new Z4MR out as a comparison. What surprised me the most was the composure and lack of speed sensation compared to the Z3MR. I couldn't afford the 4 but I bought the cracking 5 year old Z3MR, one of the last build and only 10K on the clock. I sold it 2.5 yrs later after adding a meagre 7K to it. Wish I still owned it now as it must be worth 3 time what I sold it for. So I do see the attraction and totally know how you feel and I hope you put a lot more than 7k on it! PS... when its time to let it go, look me up
