I'm another that used clear silicon sealant 6 months ago and alls well still.

So I peeled off the heated backing from the mirror and used some 3M double sided tape to stick it down. It's secure, very secure which is a shame as I put it on wonky :(

Will a hair dryer make it easier to pull off and reapply? I'm worried about ruining that thin black layer in the picture.
 
Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I've just had this happen today.
No wobbles, no warning - the glass on the drivers side just decided it quite liked a particular spot on the M5 and exited at a great rate of knots giving the door a couple of 'kisses' on the way past. Fortunately there was nothing too close behind and luckily no damage other than the lost glass.
Because it's the drivers side though, it made the journey home back up the motorway a bit of a nightmare so I headed straight off to the dealership and picked up a replacement which is now fitted.
I decided it would be a good idea to check the passenger side in case that was loose too and it seems pretty mobile although still not showing any visible wobble when driving. I'm going to attach it more firmly now though before it's too late.
My question is directed at those who have used sticky pads to re-attach their glass. Does the air gap created by the thickness of the pads affect the performance of the heating element drastically?
Does anyone have a brand name for a glue that works well to avoid the air gap?
Any help and advice much appreciated.

Used it on my roadster Andy. Same issue exactly except I caught mine before it fell off. Cleaned back, Evo stick a pretty picture on the back and press onto mirror unit back panel.
 
+1for evostick ....used it a couple of years ago, doesn't interfere with the heating element and stays put!!

Sorry to drag up an old thread, but do most people remove the mirror heating/fixing part then glue, or simply leave it in the mirror casing and glue it on in situ?

It might be easier to stick it when it's on the car to ensure it isn't wonky come refit?
 
I just used two part epoxy on mine tonight. It went wobbly in the last few weeks and upon removal it was clearly flapping and only really held on in the top side of the glass.

I'm not sure how the black heating stuff works but the whole glass still got hot with it flapping around on the top 2cm square or so of bonded glue stuff still left, so I painted a big patch of epoxy on the bottom edge and outside edge and then left it under pressure for about 30mins.

Seems all good now, so fingers crossed hehe :D

Glass falling off completely doesn't sound like a nice experience. That said it's an easy check for anyone worried about it!

mine came off the other day! seems there is like a platic ish plate left behind! however im not sure if this is the back of the old glass or the heating plate! when i try remove the plastic there is loads of glue behind?

I stuck the old wing window glass back on with double sided tape as a temporary measure, whilst I waited for the new stick on mirror to be delivered, and it stuck very firmly and took quite a job to remove after only a week so I'm glad I didn't bother with epoxy glue.
 
When I tried to fully remove mine it looked to be tearing the black film stuff away where the glue bond was still strong (top half of the glass)...

I assume replacement glass comes with the bonded heating stuff on there and the plug ends for the wiring?

The stick on replacement glass does not come with the black heater pad unless you buy the complete OEM unit which will set you back £115. You need to carefully remove the old glass.
 
Amazing to read how common this seems to be. Mine fell off not long after I bought it as I shut the door. I thought it must be something odd so didn't think to look it up on here. Just glued it back on - all seems to work.
