Gearknobs - alternatives

Knew there was a reason I stay out of these forums, always find something else to spend money on :D

Spoken to Doug and have my sample design for my Whalen Shift Machine, $160 to the uk with custom design though having seen pictures of his setup it looks like moeny well invested for a quality product. If anyone else wants in there migth be soem sort of discount even if it was just for shipping though guess it depends on the design.

Think i'm just going to go for a simple knurled effect in a big BMW badge with polished lip and small selector marking on a brushed stainless knob. Feel free to comment as I've not signed off the design yet.

I cannot fault the ones Doug Whalen supplies, had one on my old Alpina and bought another for the MC:

I've just fitted the knob Doug made for me when I had my Cooper S Works. He does a fantastic job and well worth the money. I sent him an image of the Welsh Dragon I wanted and he did it really well. Looks as good on the Z as it did on the Mini. I will get a photo sorted.

Very nice  Excellent detail. And in recognition and appreciation of some earlier comments....Your hand should be very happy!

yeah thats really, nice. looks very clean and tidy.

i imagined the machining of that detail would be a bit rougher

P.I.M.P. :D. Very nice and very original.

As a side note, I managed to pull my Richbrook knob off (!) today, I was obviously a bit sympathetic tightening up the allen screws when I first fitted it. Borrowed an allen key from a bike shop I passed lol and just away out to loctite the bolts in this time with a bit more pressure...

more pimp pictures :D
Now finished I will get Doug to brush up to the second band I think so just the part where the markings are is polished, top job though and can't wait to get it fitted. :driving:

very nice, but I personally prefer it in it's matt stage in your previous photo rather than the high gloss polish.

Yeah I did quite like the mat finish but it would end up showing scratches and marks quite badly I think so brushed is better to keep its look plus it should match the brushed aluminium.

This is the brushed/mat one I had for the last 3 years on my Corrado, it lasted very well, despite me constantly tapping my ring against it (ooh uhh  ).

Same issue here, but knew it from my old Honda. Nothing like a reminder of your status every time you change gear...

Doug can make as many as you need, $160 for a custom engraved one like mine includding shipping to Europe, don't mind if you want to copy my design just tell Doug you want one the same as Alan from scotland and he will know the style you want.

Fitted  very happy and a great locking mechanism so secure and simple to fit. Much shorter and weightier definitely improves the slight notchyness from first to second and gives it a nicer throw.
