Gas prices

On the subject of fuel prices, I have just been left reeling! :|

There is a year-in-industry student in our office from a university and he's from Iran. He just worked out that petrol in Iran at the moment is...

8 pence (UK) a litre!!! :o

They are rationed to 3 litres a day for private use. This is worked out on a monthly basis. Works on a card system.

Interesting I was on a plane with a guy from Iran recently and he was telling me that for locals petrol is free on a Monday between 9.00am and 3.00pm Rest of the week slightly more...It was 5p so must be going up a bit.

I could cry - as I posted somehwere else today I just did my first $11/ UK gallon tank fill with Tesco's finest today. Compare that with US having just got back. I drove LA to SanDiego return, plus to and from airports and a load more and still had 1/3 of a tank left that cost just £24....

After just under 900 miles of driving last weekend, the highest I paid for 91 octane was $4.099 in Holbrook Az (not surprised either). Still $3.799 here in Flagstaff (for now).
The car did famously! Averaged 31.6 mpg for the trip!

I did good on my drive home. Car was telling me 33-34 mpg at around 75 mph over 1500 miles. My best leg of the trip was from El Paso to San Antonio, Tx. I got around 380 miles to the tank.

Filled up yesterday and it was $3.97.9 here in Indiana. That is for 93 octane. Cannot find 91 octane around here. :x

What I can't figure out is when oil prices (60 day futures) reach a new high, the price per gallon goes up the next morning. Oil companies posted all time high net profits, yet not a single new refinery has been built in the US for many years. Hmmmm.

I may become a revolutionary ala Che G.

Blame Washington, your local State Politicians and community groups for the refinery problem. It's the "Not in my backyard" syndrome. The refineries in the US run at 100% capacity and there is still a shortfall of fuel. The oil companies have to tanker in REFINED fuel from out of the country to satisfy the demand....

When you factor in all the expenses of running a big oil company, their profit margins are only 7-8%. The profit margins on the banking industry is 11-15%. They make MORE profit on YOUR money but NO one seems to complain about that.....

We're being told here in Scotland that Petrol will be £1.50 per litre come Autumn.

This works out at £6.825 per Gallon / $13.4516

Who do we blame?

Blair, Bush, etc

Invading Eye Rack for no reason apart from Oil.

I blame futures speculators for this bs.

Unfortunately Ducks is correct. There is no conspiracy, this happened with gold (gold has just pulled back $150.00 an ounce) and other commodities. The goverment was not to blame for the Silicon Valley bust or the Real Estate bust or gold retreating. People will trade or buy what ever they can to increase their currency value and this will play off America's deflated dollar. Economics are hard to explain if emotion and philosophy are used. A deflated dollar and a down market will send investors somewhere else, you can not stop this.

Geez Ducks your fast on the trigger! Must be my finger typing.

20ducks - turning into a revolutionary? NEVER!

I think there are multiple processes. The US Dollar taking hits will increase the price of oil in US Dollars but not in others - it should not effect the price in Canadian Dollars/Euro etc. Another issue is supply-demand. Another issue is food prices. Another issue is war. Another issue is population growth. Then there are investors. The list is endless. This is what happens when we mess with Natural Selection.... It comes back to bite us. After all Bacterial colonies grow until they run out of resources.... Same with humans.

Now that we are listing things that contribute to the downward spiral in the US at least, please remember that, there are a lot of us including me, who no longer contribute, but drain the economy. I am talking about all of us on entitlement programs, like social security, welfare, aid to dependent children, and the maraud of other social programs. The war and other such diversions are merrily speed bumps. 60 percent of our national budget goes for such programs. Those of us who can’t or won’t work, need you to keep your nose to the grindstone.

We got here on the backs of those depression error workers who asked for and got little and made laws for us so we could enjoy the good life without the fear of failure.

So all you young folks stop complaining and get to work. I need a raise in my Social Security. Daddy needs a 2009 Zed.

I know this is probably a bit of a sore subject but I'm curious.
How much is gas per gallon / litre in your part of the world??
Here in Flagstaff Arizona 91 octane (premium) is $3.69.9 a gallon (highest in the state). :headbang:
( I have a feeling this is low compared to across the pond)

Well about 45 days have come and gone (since the first post) and we just hit $4.15 for premium in my area. I have been carpooling (Honda Element) for the last few years with three other people for a round trip of 62 miles a day and I guess if I was now to drive alone I would need to find an extra $250.00 a month at least. I think Americans are really going to have to seriously look to fuel economy as they did in the late 70's. Not ranting, just pretty amazed that at 48 I am seeing economic history in the making with so many financial areas or markets aligning for the perfect storm. PS. How f#%king amazing is it that a sports car that I only use on weekends can get me over 30 miles per gallon on the highway. :driving:

I honestly believe that we should (the democrats will just eat this up) put a $4/pack tax on cigarettes. Use the tax to subsidize our invasion of Venezuela.

j/k about Venezuela.

I just paid $4.399/gal for premium today. My first over $50.00 fill-up in the Z4 :-( I have seen prices as high as $4.699/gal for premium. I expect that we will break the $5.00/gal point before the summer is over

At least the mileage in the Z4 is reasonable - even paying for premium gas I come out ahead as compared to driving my Explorer on a daily basis.

Highest price I've ever paid yesterday £1.20 a litre for Shell V Power - 99 Ron :(

On the plus side. As soon as I'd filled up, I activated the sport button and spent the drive home wringing the next out of it
