Gaptech problem

Afternoon all

As the subject states, the Gaptech is no longer working. It was fitted before I bought the car and has been fine up until yesterday.
I added cruise yesterday, mid 2004 build so a straight plug into the loom without the extra wiring, but I can't see how this would affect things

I left the roof open all day and when I got home the Gaptech didn't work either on the key or dash. In fact, the dash button didn't work at all.
I disconnected the battery & when I reconnected it 30 minutes later, the roof came up fine.
Gaptech still not working so I opened the roof on the dash button but again it wouldn't close.
I disconnected & reconnected the battery for just a few seconds & it closed.
This morning it wouldn't open at all so when I got to work, I checked the fuses & all were OK. After I put the fuses back in, the dash buttons work just fine both open & close & I tried it twice.
Not sure why removing & replacing fuses worked, but it did, I guess a dodgy contact.
Thing is, the Gaptech still isn't working. As I didn't fit it, can you tell me where it is & what to check?

Thanks

Tony

Hi is the gap tech installed with the connectors. If it is these are probably the problem as I just installed mine and had about 2hrs of different faults until I soldered all the connections and then it was fine.

will be under the ashtray...the scotchlock connections can be temperamental so may be worth removing them and replacing with better electrical connectors to rule them out

The gap tech should be fitted under the ash tray assembly . These can be troublesome sometimes particularly if they have been fitted with scotch lock piggy back connectors . First of all I would pop your ash tray out ( lift out the ash collector and undo the screw under that and then carefully lift the back section of the assembly nearest the hand brake and the assembly will come out) , the gap tech is a small black Box ( half a match box size) that should be connected into the loom that supplies the buttons for the roof etc . Check these connections first , especially if they are scotch lock piggy back connectors . Soldering these connections is a lot better way of doing this . But your problem could be these connectors .

As above with the crappy supplied connectors, especially if it's been in for a while. I soldered mine in for that reason. BUT, also check that your cigarette lighter is working, as it gets it's main feed from there..

Does the cruise control work as it should. If it was me I would go back to the cc and disconnect it as your Gaptech was ok up to this point .If the Gaptech is still not working then it was just a coinsidence it stopped working when you fitted the cc.

I'd be very surprised if this was the case , But you could do worse than check this first just in case .

So when one of the technicians here said "why haven't you got your roof down?" I explained about the Gaptech, showed him & it decided to work. Ha, sorted. Then it decided not to work, then the buttons on the dash decided not to work. As it's quiet here today, he removed the ashtray, low & behold, scotchlok city. A wiggle of the connectors & it works again. He's dumped the Scotchloks, soldered the wires and all works as it should.

I tolerated the scotchlocks for about 2 weeks and got jarred off with the intermittant operation. Solder connection all the way with this mod. Now faultless.
