Hi - help needed..

i have attempted to install the GapTech roof remote and when connected the function of lowering the roof would not work. When the roof lower button was pressed the light would turn orange and nothing else would happen. I have undone the Gaptech setup were one wire broke from the main loom..i have fixed that but the problem remains.

Advice welcome

If you used the connectors they provided "scotch blocks" they are Sh1t! I bet its a loose connection or wiring incorrect!

Solder the connections! Check all your fuses you may has blown one during the process!

As you said the Scotch blocks are s**t, they severed one of the main loom wires. I have reverted back to the normal set up as i have had to bridge the broken wire and i don't feel confident i won't cut another loom wire. As i can't solder - never done it, i will sit on this for a while and think about the right way to go.

10 minute job my ass...

It takes 25mins to do a solder install (that includes 2 cups of coffee) if your local to Brighton I'm happy to solder it for you! ;)

Hi,
as already stated the scotch locks are useless, you can also use a small block connecter that is available from halfords for about £3. they allow you to simply insert the bared ends of the wires into each end and then you simply screw down onto them. very secure and safe. use one for each separate wire

Scotch Locks are not only useless - they can actually damage the wiring loom. They work on the principle of the blade cutting partway into the wire that you are Tee-ing into, but in doing so they can reduce the current carrying capacity of that wire, or even cut through the wire completely.

Any other gadgets for connecting 2 wires together tend to be bodges to a greater or lesser degree, especially when dealing with the vibrations inside a car.

It only takes a few minutes to solder 2 wires and to cover the joint with heat-shrink sleeving (or self amalgamating tape) and the joint will last as long as the car.

Thats the route i'm gonna go - small block connectors. I used them to repair the cut loomed wire. The problem with the Gaptech/BMW solution is that the wiring is fragile.

Small block connectors did the job and the GapTech is installed. All the functions work except raising the roof. From the guide:

"the unlock button must be pressed twice followed by a single press of the lock button. Again waiting 0.8 - 1.5 seconds between each click."

Anyone got any advice on the roof raising function??

Check, double check, and triple check that (1) you have the wiring correct, and (2) the connections are properly made. Get somebody else to check for you (sometimes you can be too close to the problem!)

If you are anywhere near Winchester, I'd be happy to check and/or solder the connections for you.

You have got the "Remote Control Hood+" module and not just the "One Touch Hood"?

There is also a rhythm to the clicks: ONE thousand and TWO thousand and THREE thousand (slowly rather than quickly).

Try emailing GapTech? Their email support is meant to be very good (I've never needed to contact them, so have no personal experience).
