I went to a Zed meeting at Max's restaurant & got to sit in his Zed. Max's Zed is very well done indeed & he cooked up a great BBQ lunch for everyone. To bad it rained all day though. Max is a very friendly chap as well & his restaurant is wonderful. Anyone venturing to the Heidelberg area would do well to stop at his place for dinner.

I don't care about his food!!

Car news please!!

Although ribs would be nice...

Can't wait to get home to read this thread properly !! PLEASE tell us more about the m track mode!!!!!

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Beedub I will tell you more as soon as I am home and have finished work for today.

@all thank you very much for all those compliments on my car

M track mode:

A big guy (in computers big) on the German m forum did write that program. He is working for bmw and he is specialist in all electronic stuff.
U want to make an e85 talk and work with an s65 v8 u call him. He did write my alpha n too by the way.

The m track mode is a two step dsc.
Short push on the dsc button is m track mode- means u still have dsc support, but significantly later. Drifts (not too big angle) and slip is permitted.
When it gets too much dsc holds u back.

When u push the button long, dsc is off as usual.
That thing is genius and helps alot for race track beginners.

Stunning car

What are the gains from the CSL air box and alphaN tune?
Hmmm very honestly spoken:
Big big big induktion noise - u get addicted cause it sounds like a race car.

A couple of horse power- around 25-30 with the right Software

Some nice optics under the hood

A bought it for a good price- means I can probably sell it for the same or higher price when I want

A guy from the German forum roadster.com is also going to program M-trackmode from the CSL on my Z4M. He did a lot Z4M's in the past. Maybe it's the same guy who did it on your car…? I only have to find a day to meet him in person when I'm in Germany...

@ Beedub; The Z4M and facelift e46 M3 have the same DSC MK-60 as the e46 M3 CSL and e46 M3 with competition pack ? Here are some questions and answers I asked concerning the M track mode.

- Are there any downsides on programming the M-track mode?
no downsides at all! Except you have to press teh DSC button fpr 2seconds to turn DSC completely off instead of a short press (see the next questions).

- Is the normal DSC (ESP) still available on the car?
yes, when starting the car you will always be in full DSC mode.

- Do you switch between normal ESP / M-track mode / DSC off.....?
Yes, the DSC Switch will be used: A short press will now switch between M-Track-Mode and full-DSC-mode. The car will always start up in full-DSC mode.
To turn off the DSC completely (lika actually with a short press) you have to press the DSC button for about 2seconds. You can do this either in M-Track-Mode or in full-DSC-mode. A short press then will turn on DSC again.

- Is there a visual signal that M-track mode is on?
YES, there is a "DTC" sign in the kombi (actually nor used) that will show you that the M-Track-Mode is actually on.

- The M-track mode is originally designed for the faster steering rack of the e46   M3 CSL and e46 M3 with competition pack. The Z4M coupe has the same steering rack as the M3 CSL. Does it also work on the Z4M roadster with the normal e46 M3 steering rack? I have a Z4M roadster.
The steering ratio and so the steering angle is the most important input for all DSC regulations. But the steering ratio can be programmed seperatly so that this is taken into account. And I do not switch this to the CSL steering rack and keep the setting of the Z4M!

Hey Franzino,
I have read your post there (zroadster.com) and it definately is the same guy.
His forum nick name is luckym3.
The location where he has done so many Z4M was at my restaurant where we had the meeting last year.
You guys will enjoy the m track mode.
All questions were answered truly.

Not all cars that were there that day are on those photos.
They were many many more.

Hey Guys,
as I promised a certain time a go to a couple of users here- I open my own thread in the M specific zone.
I am Max, 34 years old, running a little restaurant and hotel near Heidelberg Germany. 3 years a go a bought a stock Z4M roadster in imola red with 17k kilometers on it.
Since that day I am in love with my red bastard. 2 Bmw 7 series and one Mercedes CL have accompanied my Z4, the z4 is the only being still here :-)

And as it comes with the time, espescially when you only live about a ten minute drive from Hockenheim Circuit, tuning and improving the car startet.
I will post you a little list what was done.
Fell free to ask to any modification.
Car is nearly perfect now as it is.
I love what you have done with your roadster…
I would never buy a red Z4M myself (it's to flash for me 8) ) , but I love to see them driving around and a red Z4M looks really cool.
It seems that you are also a fan of track driving and real drivers enthusiast. Why did you buy a roadster and not the more rigid, more stable, faster steering and slightly better driving (on track) coupe? I did the same thing; after a test drive I also bought a roadster and drive it a lot on the Nurburgring. But I was wondering why you bought a roadster and not the coupe?

These are the reasons for me why I a bought a Z4M roadster and not a Z4M coupe...
1) I like to be a little different (on most trackdays, I'm the only topless car).
2) When the sun is out; I love to drive with the roof down…it gives an extra dimension to the car. When driving with the top down the roadster is more fun for me then a coupe.
3) My Z4M is still a street car, that comes on a track (mostly Nurburgring) once a month and I enjoy a roadster more on the street then a coupe.
4) If I bought a Z4M coupe then I had a small unpractical sports car, if I bought the roadster then I also had a small unpractical sports car but with extra added value of also having a convertible.

I have modified my Z4M roadster in the same spirit as your car… I'm not going so extreme into fitting Recaro seats and CSL air box but I'm also optimizing my Z4M… Next on the list is a different suspension instead of the original dampers and Eibach springs. If you see a silver Z4M roadster with CSL wheels at the Nurburgring then there is a 90% chance it's me.

Programmed the M Track Mode from the M3 CSL on my Z4
So having a 2 step dsc (dsc off is still working)
- very nice on a wet race track or on a new race track
Is coming also on my Z4M.

Is this useful or more safe?

KW V3 which was changed into a Competition including the strut bearing to run 3 degrees in the front
(my car was adjusted and finished by KW itself in Fichtenberg/Germany)
Why did you fit the KW competition and not a similar Bilstein? Because of the possibility to alter your camber more with the KW camber plates? -3.0 degrees camber in the front sounds like a lot… I'm probably going to fit a Bilstein PSS-10 (without camber plates). Do you know if you can fit CSL wheels with a KW competition, without fitting spacers?

AP Front Brakes Hawk dt60 on track, Ferodo DS2500 on road

Brembo rear Brakes (Porsche Boxster Calipers, standard bmw disc) Hawk ht 10 on track, textar on road
I have a full AP BBK front and rear.. I use Pagid RS-14 / RS 4-4 on the track and for street driving the standard AP racing APF-404 brake pad (sort of DS-2500 rebranded for AP). The APF-404 are almost silent on the AP discs. How are the DS-2500? Sometimes my APF-404 make a really small squealing noise, but nothing like the noise the Pagid pads make.

APF 404
Excellent high Performance Road and Track pad. Consistant performance, low wear, disc friendly, low noise, low dust, low fade, good feel. Consider where Ferodo DS2500, Pagid RS4-2, Pagid RS421 or Carbo- Tech XP10 are currently used.
Why did you fit AP on the front and a modified Brembo caliper from a Porsche on the back?

BMW CSL 19 “ with Michelin Cups 245/35/19 265/35/19
When driving on a track, do you think the difference is really big between the Michelin PSS and the Michelin Cup? I'm currently running the PSS on street and track and I was maybe considering the new Cup2 to use as street and track tyre…. I only have one set of summer wheels (19" CSL) and 1 set of 18" winter wheels.

What is so much better about this set-up? Sounds like to high a tyre in my ears...

I never thought I will one day go on a track with it...
And I love to drive with the roof down.
So, I just startet doing trackdays- I am far away from being an expert and I am really slow :D .
Friends brought me to that fever.

- perhaps more safe, came with the m track mode for 10€ extra...

- I am befriended with KW and always had good experiences with them.
Bilsteins are well known to squeak...

-the Ferodo and the textar work fine and make no noise at all.
with the hawks you sound like a stopping train

-the brembo in the rear cause I saved a good amount of money for a brake working as good as the Ap and I avoided another 3 months of waiting time (that was the main reason)

I have only done Anneau du rhin and Hockenheim. Both are very demanding for the tires.
With the cups u can do 10 laps in a row, with the Pss 3 laps.
Cups u take them home for the next time use, pss they are done after one trackday in Hockenheim.
Nordschleife is pretty easy for the tires as far as I believe my friends driving there.
But please, I just startet doing trackdays- I am far away from being an expert.

It is hard to explain, the grip ends not as suddenly.
The limit is as high but not as sharp.
By the way tires are cheaper in that dimension.
It only looks a bit strange in the beginning
