From Z4MC to 335i

Glad you went for petrol over diesel...this way there is only one rattle from under the bonnet and it sounds like it will be easily cured :P

Hmmm, I may have jumped the gun a little. Done some digging on the rattle they said they'd look into sorting for me (if cost effective) and looks like a known fault on these turbos with the wastegate.

Seems to be exactly what I heard yesterday. Bad news is that taking the turbos off is a 10 hour job (second link below).

Also seems to be a known BMW fault too...

I've emailed the sales guy and sent him these links for his mechanics. Im guessing it wont be cost effective for them to do the work and my deposit will be returned.

Great car, great compromise, you still get a 3 litre twin turbo and 300+ horses.

Just think of it a two seater, two for you and the missus and two for little inkey$

Hope it works out, +1 on the black grill surround

I reckon they'll still do it ink$. Here's hoping they do

Lets see OG. If they do then great but I'd want the turbos warrantied to within an inch of their lives! Hopefully It's a simple remedy and not a huge amount of work. They did say to me that on order to fix the rattle they needed to drop the turbos and of it turned out to be non cost effective they'd refund my deposit, which is fair enough. Goes to show how important it is to check a car thouroughly though.

Fingers crossed.

 exactly Sae :)

The noise might be similar as its the same physical unit rattling. If they fix what you originally thought it was and it clears, hopefully all good and you can take a BMW warranty out on it in case anything goes pop

True. Keep sending those positive vibes Stu :)

Shame the zed had to go, but looks like a great replacement

hope the rattle gets sorted and it all goes ahead.

How can it not be cost effective to fix it? They're hardly going to scrap it!
What they mean is that they'll have a quick look to decide what the problem is and, if it looks like it will involve lots of work, they'll sell it as it is to someone less observant

Exactly. That's more what I meant. Gutted if they can't sort it but would mean many more fun hours trawling the ads.

Be frank with them about the need for it to be fixed before it can be sold to anyone in good faith. Maybe they'll have a moral crisis....oh whoops, they're car dealers what am I thinking?!

I will do. If they decide its not worth doing for me I'll naively enquire as to what they'll do with the car instead. They really didnt come across as cowboys and I hope I'm a good judge of character even when it comes to the finely tuned world of car dealership staff! Lets see how this plays out.

If you'd listened to me and got a grandsport you wouldn't be having such reliability issues....,

Ok yeah you would prob be needing a new clutch by now
